Senior Test Automation Engineer (Contract)

Location: Bristol Country: UK Rate: £590 PD INSIDE IR35
 

This role is for a Senior Test Automation Engineer with our Central Government client.

The post holder will write automated tests that range from simple to complex ensuring that the standards used conform to standards. They will be expected to work collaboratively as part of an agile team but taking the lead in test automation guiding the team to use best industry practices.

The post holder will produce test strategies, plans, scripts and reports for approval by the relevant manager.

The post holder will work directly with project stakeholders to determine the priority of defects, but ultimately the customer has final authority to set priority for fixing to align with business need.

The post holder will be expected both to follow documented processes and procedures and use their judgement to adjust processes to fit the needs of projects.

They will also be expected to create new processes and procedures using their own initiative around their specialised field of test automation

Fundamental Tasks

  • Write test automation code, including maintaining and implementing test frameworks.
  • Create test strategies, plans and other testing documents for changes to ensure appropriate test coverage, maximise defect detection prior to release and confirm customer requirements and expectations are met.
  • Lead, co-ordinate and participate in test execution, defect recording and capture of test results using agile and/or waterfall approaches as required.
  • Document and store manual tests. Run bug triage/prioritization sessions. Summarise results of test execution into test reports, during and on completion of testing.

Essentials

This role will require an individual with proven test pedigree, with experience in:

  • Manual testing (specification & execution)
  • Automation frameworks (implementation/assisted implementation of)
  • Automation testing
  • Technical ability

- Able to read code and write test code in.NET and TS/JS

  • Playwright
  • SQL (Test data)
  • Postman (API, possible e2e and performance testing)
  • .Net

- Nunit/XUnit/Web Application Factory

  • Typescript
  • Angular
  • BDD/TDD
  • CI/CD
  • DevOps
  • Git
  • Visual Studio
  • Agile (worked within scrum/kanban team)

Desirables

It will be a benefit if you have experience of working with any of the following:

  • Playwright (e2e, API and UI testing)
  • Stryker (mutation testing)
  • PACT (performance/load testing)
  • K6 (performance/load testing)
  • A11y/Axe (accessibility)
  • GraphQL

- Hot Chocolate (GQL)

  • Docker (Miscroservices)
  • Azure

Experience of non-functional testing (most desirable are performance testing security testing and load testing) and associated test tools

Experience of use of Azure DevOps
