Role Purpose/Accountabilities:
Role purpose:

The purpose of the Soybean PE Lead role is to identify, characterize and position superior performing products that meet business targets and identified market needs including key traits and technologies.

Accountabilities:
- Coordinate Stage 5 & 6 Trial activity for the assigned NAFTA region, including:
o Coordinate trial design, trial content, and testing locations
o Lead promotion of new products from BOTH Stage 6 to 7 and Stage 5 to 6.
o Work with Soybean Breeding Project Leads, Trialing Managers and appropriate commercial contacts, for placement of Stage 5 and 6 trials within Syngenta locations and with outside collaborators.
o Take notes and/or coordinate note taking activities on Stage 5 and 6 trials, input data, analyze data and summarize data for promotion decisions
o Design, select appropriate approved checks, and manage 600 level trials.

- Working with Product Managers (PM) and Field Product Specialist staff to:
o Provide timely data to facilitate promotion decisions for all product outlets
o Attend and present data of newly advanced products at meetings
o Actively participate as appropriate at field days designed to help show and position products
o Attend meetings with key external customers to position products as required
o Attend meetings and work with GLG and assist in writing tech sheets, seed guides and help develop the Master Chart.

- Provide input and guidance for the Global Breeding Projects:
o Review product and technology needs on an annual basis to provide direction and support for planning of the early pipeline projects
o Provide customer feedback received on key Syngenta and competitor products

- Coordinate other agronomic trials on a pay for service basis, including:
o Trials of new product offerings with Crop Protection (eg seed treatments/herbicides)
o Product positioning trials (eg row spacing, soil response)

- Work with Trialing/Station Managers to provide feedback that allows continuous improvement in plot quality and testing efficiency

- Manage Data and Reports by use of SPIRIT and other data mining tools

- Work with 3rd parties, present data and recommend product positioning for out-licensing.

- Work with BPLs on stage 4 and NASA advancements.

- Coordinate and manage soybean efficacy and equivalency trials.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Critical knowledge: :

- Knowledge of product development
- Thorough knowledge of soybean agronomy
- Knowledge of soybean germplasm, traits and NA markets
- Ph.D. preferred or a Masters Degree and 5 years equivalent experience

Critical experience:

Experience as a plant breeder and/or a professional agronomist

Critical leadership capabilities:

- Excellent organization, communication and computer skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially those required to successfully function as part of a cross-functional team.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex instructions.

Additional Information:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Extensive travel by plane and automobile (approximately 25%)
- Periods of intense work at critical times of the year (eg, planting, note-taking, harvesting)

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Indoor - extensive work at a computer for long periods of time
