Job Overview:
The Coding Compliance Auditor position in Healthcare/Health Services will concentrate in Medical Records, IT, and Informatics.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform inpatient and outpatient coding reviews for accuracy of ICD-9-CM diagnosis/procedure codes, proper MS-DRG assignment, and documentation in support of all codes assigned.
- Perform outpatient coding reviews for accuracy of CPT and ICD-9-CM diagnosis/procedures codes, appropriate APC assignment, and documentation in support of all codes assigned.
- Prepare reports for management on findings from coding audits including reports and input to Texas Health management and committees.
- Provide coding education, training, and facilitate improvement in areas vulnerable to error.
- Research coding questions asked by coding and other areas and provide timely feedback. Review payer and RAC denials.
- Review the record and determine if an appeal is appropriate. If an appeal is appropriate write an appeal letter, provide feedback regarding the appeal to coding, and follow up with the payer or RAC until appeal response is received.
- Perform exits with coding personnel to review coding audit findings.
- Make recommendations on coding education and training based on audit results.
- Monitor and ensure Corrective Action Plan is being implemented by coding personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Equivalent relevant work experience in lieu of Bachelor's degree is acceptable
- Minimum Licensure/Certification Requirements: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
- Seven (7) years Compliance Auditing experience required Relocation Assistance - possible for the ideal candidate
- Proficiency in DRG (CMS and APR) theory, ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding, modifiers, NCCI edits, official coding guidelines
- Medical terminology, Human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, inpatient and outpatient coding, report preparation, data analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Powerpoint).
- Conversant in ICD-10 CM/PCS.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to coders in a clear and concise manner and translate using coding rules and concepts.
- Capable of analysing data and summarizing findings verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and exercise independent judgment.
- Critical thinking skills, Experience training others Auditing experience required.
Preferred Job Skills/Experience/Knowledge:
- Completion of AHIMA's ICD 10 Train the Trainer Program with a certificate and experience in 3Ms coding system would be a plus.
