Description

The Data Architect is responsible for designing the data assets that are required to support the overall technology strategy at ATC. The Data Architect must evaluate functional and technical business requirements and be able to transform those requirements into conceptual/logical data models (and ultimately physical data models) that efficiently enable expected application and/or analytic capabilities to support the strategic initiatives of the enterprise. The data structures designed and built by the Data Architect must be highly-performing, which requires deep knowledge of the applicable database management systems at ATC. The Data Architect must analyze, document and promote standards and patterns that represent the established data architectural goals. Individuals in this role are also responsible for researching, demonstrating and providing guidance on emerging and well-trusted data modeling techniques (including both relational and dimensional) and industry trends as well as maintaining expert knowledge of internal and external-facing systems. To be successful in this role one must be able to work effectively in a fluid, fast-paced environment. This role requires strong communication skills with engineering team members, operations support staff and business contacts. In addition, the successful Data Architect must be able to work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Provide thought leadership and hands-on involvement in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of design artifacts such as conceptual/logical data architectures and their respective physical data models
- Work with development and other architecture teams to establish Data Architecture standards, patterns, and best practices
- Maintain broad and deep level knowledge of Data Architecture/Modeling techniques and methodologies
- Participate in development of high-level estimates in support of business case development
- When necessary, serve as escalation point for problem solving and troubleshooting of data architectures and related physical databases, responding quickly and effectively to production issues and taking accountability for seeing those issues through resolution
- Provide educational/mentoring resources to project teams and others
Perform reviews of peers' data architecture designs
- Bring Enterprise Architecture knowledge into project teams while exposing project-related architectural issues to the architecture team. Provide educational/mentoring resources to technical teams.
- Define and evangelize best practice design and modeling methodologies
- Perform architecture reviews and thought leadership within the Architecture Governance process
- Establish yourself as a trusted technical advisor with key internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
- 5+ years of IT delivery experience, especially in the full development life cycle of Applications and/or Data Warehousing solutions in a production environment
- 5+ years experience in designing and building Relational and/or Dimensional conceptual/logical data models
- Minimum 5 years experience in transforming conceptual/logical data models into physical models and database artifacts
- Minimum 5+ years experience in the development of data architectures using applications/tools such as Sybase PowerDesigner (preferred), CA ERwin, and/or IBM InfoSphere Data Architect
- Thorough understanding of Data Warehousing architectures, techniques, and methodologies; including Start Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, Slowly Changing Dimensions, and Aggregation Techniques
- Thorough understanding of advanced SQL techniques, including analytic (window) functions
- Thorough understanding of relational database & MPP platforms; specifically Oracle and Netezza
- Thorough understanding of relational database performance structures and techniques; specifically indexing (including bitmap), materialized views, and partitioning

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
- 2+ years experience with high-volume (20+ TB) Netezza EDWs and Marts
- 2+ years experience with website analytics

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business, or equivalent experience
