3M Company is seeking a Java Development Lead for the Motor Vehicle Systems and Services Business Unit

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Java Development Lead will primarily be responsible for leading a team of developers through project implementations aligning efforts related to design, development and testing of software related to implementations of business applications supporting initiatives within the Motor Vehicle Systems and Services Division of 3M. This includes, but is not limited to working with an architecture team on design considerations, managing the development workload around project milestones and deadlines, creating technical specifications, providing leadership and guidance to development teams, and providing enhancements and new development to an existing suite of applications, while adhering to standards and guidelines within 3M MVSS. This role will be part of the Software Development Team. The position of Java Development Lead will be located in Austin, Texas and may include up to 10% travel.

Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Works with project management to adhere to timelines and deadlines for development work.
- Works closely with business analysis and quality assurance to ensure a successful match of business requirements and software functionality.
- Leading and mentoring a team of developers within a project implementation.
- Designs, codes, and tests technical solutions for multi-tier and multi-layered systems.
- Provides effective communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives and performance.
- Creates well designed, reusable objects.
- Understands the benefits of the various design methodologies and Object Oriented environments.
- Understands functional design requirements.
- Assists in physical and logical database design.
- Identifies system deficiencies and recommends solutions.
- Creates technical specifications for systems and feature implementation.
- Ensures that all development practices are in compliance with employer's best practices, policies and procedures.
- Assures the viability, functionality and effectiveness of essential tools.
- Understands the necessity of and contributes to establishing and enforcing coding standards.
- Creates and performs training sessions for developers.
- Shares acquired skills with team members through formal and informal methods.
- Prioritizes multiple tasks effectively.
- Communicate effectively with other disciplines including other Architects, Developers, Project Management, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Infrastructure/Communications, Engineers, and Production Support.
- Assist in producing technical documentation.

The Java Development Lead will be assigned to work with one or more MVSS Client/clients and the position will be dependent on MVSS having contract and ongoing work with the client.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED or higher
- Minimum 5 years of experience with Java/J2EE
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a development lead role

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree, or higher, in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with multiple key relational database management system (RDBMS) platforms and related tools such as SQL Server, Oracle and/or DB2
- Experience in Web Services standards and Service Oriented Architecture.
- A high degree of understanding of security, scalability, flexibility, maintainability, and reliability.
- Experience in Object Oriented development and design.
- Experience with Spring, Hibernate/MyBatis a plus
- Experience with WebSphere or WebLogic (IBM Rational Application Developer (RAD) version 6.x or 7.x is a plus);
- Practical experience with SVN, branching, merging.
- Experience working with security protocols for secure transmission of sensitive data. Additional experience with specifications such as PCI compliance is desired, but not required
- Excellent problem solving and interpersonal communication skills.
- Leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.
