3M Company is seeking a Software UI Design Engineer for the Motor Vehicle Systems and Services Business Unit

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position Software UI Design Engineer will primarily be responsible for working interdependently with a team of developers to design, develop and complete unit test assignments for Front End (UX) applications supporting initiatives within the Motor Vehicle Systems and Services Division of 3M. This includes working with a team lead for business direction to provide enhancements and new development to both existing and new applications, while adhering to standards and guidelines within 3M MVSS. This role will be part of the Software Development Team. The position of Software UI Design Engineer will be located in Austin, Texas and may include up to 10% travel.

Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Working with a team to design, build, and test web based (UX) applications for both new and existing projects
- Identify and implement industry standards for UI development
- Develop application interfaces directed towards multiple web browsers
- Manage all aspects of the software development lifecycle and workflow, estimation and target date planning, work plan development and monitoring, stakeholder communication, quality assurance, development methods/techniques, testing methods/techniques and implementation planning and execution
- Debugging and analyzing code
- Create new code to support business functional requirements and rules
- Communicate effectively within the team to ensure current organization standards and procedures are met
- Working with team members to ensure a high quality end product
- Coordinate production support activities of the team, with focus on timely and accurate resolution of issues
- Enhance web based applications to meet customer requirements
- Research and correct problems identified during testing
- Assist in producing technical documentation
- Perform as liaison to end users as needed

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (eg, H1B status).
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
- High School graduate or GED
- Experience implementing user interfaces with HTML 5, jQuery and AJAX
- 3 years experience working with PHP and/or server side programming languages
- Experience with JavaScript development

Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year combined experience working with multiple key relational database management system (RDBMS) platforms and related tools such as SQL Server, Oracle and/or DB2
- Knowledge using, XML, HTML, CSS, etc.
- Experience developing with PHP is strongly desired
- Experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, Mysql, PHP) desired
- Extensive knowledge in web standards and usability guidelines
- Experience with Node.js preferred
- Experience with Java and JSP is preferred, but not required.
- Strong unit test experience and skills desired
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP and sockets preferred
- An understanding of Object Oriented programming and design principles
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required
- SQL and Unix experience (Oracle, DB2 and MySQL experience a plus)
- Practical experience with SVN, branching, merging
- Experience working with security protocols for secure transmission of sensitive data. Additional experience with specifications such as PCI compliance is desired, but not required
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- Relative certification is desired, but not required
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects, and shift rapidly between them
- Ability to take initiative and work independently and also as a team member in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate effectively within a team environment
