Network Services Group Leader

Prestigious Research Institution is in need of a Network Services Manager/Group Leader. Individual will plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization's IT assets.
Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning
- Design and implement short-to-medium term strategic and tactical plans to ensure that the network meets existing and future requirements
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration and appropriate use
- Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports.
- Establish best practices for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network devices and configurations
- Practice network assessment management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation
- Work with senior management and the Service Level Manager to update service level agreements with customers as needed
- Develop and update availability, capacity, and continuity plans
Acquisition and Deployment
- Plan, acquire, and coordinate the installation of in-house and remote hardware and software across the organization's network
- Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
- Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
Operational Management
- Manage and ensure effectiveness of network services such as DNS, NTP, DHCP, network monitoring
- Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including Routers, Switches, load balancers, VPN, VoIP, etc.
- Manage and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including fire walls, anti-virus solutions, and intrusion detection systems
- Oversee all changes affecting the production network environment. Develop and implement plans to correct or improve the change processes, as necessary
- Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization's executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent network activities
- Lead and manage a team of network architects, analysts, and technicians; conduct performance reviews and corrective action sessions
- Mentor junior members of the team
Qualifications and Essential Functions
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or 7 years equivalent experience
- Cisco Network Certifications highly desirable
- ITIL v3 certification preferred
- 7 years' experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, PVNs, etc.
- Hands on experience troubleshooting hardware such as Cisco 65xx, Cisco Nexus 5000 and 7000 series, Cisco5508, F5, and Palo Alto
- Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles
- Knowledge of the installation on network cabling and patching
- Previous experience working as a network manager at a large university or national laboratory highly desirable
- Exceptional technical knowledge of networking including routing technologies and protocols such as OSPF, BGP, VRF, HSRP, and GLBP preferred
- Knowledge of and working experience with ITIL v3 or ISO2OK processes desirable
