Position Description

Expedia's Package Discovery Services team is seeking a passionate, highly motivated, and talented Test Manager to own and drive key pieces of Expedia's core package search & booking platform, and build great teams with a strong focus on testing and quality. We own functionality that allows users to search, discover, and explore vacation packages combining Expedia's vast set of inventory to bring the best inventory in front of the customer with savings only available when purchasing multiple items together. Our services strive to go beyond a simple search and allow customers to discover vacation experiences they may not have thought about on their own! Our server applications are designed to handle millions of transactions a day and run in a Real Time 24x7 environment, making robustness, scalability, and reliability crucial.

Responsibilities:
- Partner with business customers, program managers, dev managers, operations, and architects to design efficient solutions to support business initiatives.
- Manage, mentor, and lead a team of 5-8 testers.
- Participate or provide oversight in gathering requirements, developing test strategies, plans and procedures, coordinate testing, automation design and developing and/or reviewing test automation (code reviews) with test team.
- Define and monitor QA processes and overall quality strategies.
- Define and deliver on the test planning and automation strategy for the Package Discovery Services team to enable frequent & high quality release of services.
- Coordinate integration test activities with internal and external teams.
- Drive test participation and delivery on projects and on-going maintenance work items.
- Oversee and participate in functional and structural testing of systems, components and interfaces, including regression testing of enhancements.
- Manage multiple development and test environments.
- Work closely with our partners in Supply, Release, Test Engineering to improve lab infrastructure, Disaster recovery planning and general administration.
- Participate in portfolio planning activities to manage test resource allocation and scheduling.
- Hire, groom, and grow a talented test team with a bias for engineering excellence.
- Drive innovation in technology, tools & process improvements to increase efficiency.
- Continuously streamline and improve the testing life cycle to ensure test planning, execution and reporting are effective and coordinated.
- Manage test projects and assign test engineers to project activities. Work closely with developers, understanding code coverage.
- Interact with Program Managers and Test Engineers to contribute to and review functional specifications and test cases.
- Champion and advocate product quality throughout the organization
- Work closely with the operations team to ensure that systems maintain high reliability, scalability, and performance
- Work with the PDS India team to ensure consistent quality practices are followed across both teams.

Qualifications:
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
- 3+ years experience in leading engineering teams, including experience leading a test team
- 8+ years experience as a senior engineer, including a strong background in testing methodologies and test automation
- Strong design and implementation skills with a strong coding background in Object Oriented languages (eg C#, C++, Java)- Experience leading a large scale project from spec to ship, owning all testing tasks and managing multiple testers.
- Ability to independently drive technical investigations and scope efforts to completion
- Experience with SQL, big data paradigms, web technologies, and SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) highly desired
- Excellent organizational and communication skills across, up, and down the organization are required
- Demonstrated maturity, judgment, negotiation and analytical skills
- A strong drive to learn new Internet technologies and passion for building great software.
- Understanding of systems architecture and software testing approaches.
- Proven ability to define and implement automated testing framework and tools.
- Proven ability to work cross functionally and drive process improvement across teams.
- Experience working with both waterfall and agile methodologies.
- Must be flexible and motivated to work in a fast paced environment.
- Experience working with web based and service-orientated applications written in SQL Server/.NET a strong plus.
