Division: Applications and Services Engineering

Since Bing launched in June of 2009, the search world has changed for the better. We're helping people break free from search overload and enabling them to make decisions with Bing's powerful, friendly tools. We're attracting new users and changing how people think about Microsoft and Search. We have a long road ahead and we need your help! Key to our continued success in this hypercompetitive space is taking enormous volumes of data and turning them into useful, actionable information to drive increased user engagement through great Bing features and improvements. We're talking petabytes of data about how searches succeed, how they fail, and how we can improve Bing and our partner properties like maps, commerce, travel, and more.

The Online Services Division has the largest number of Servers within Microsoft and likely the second largest serving footprint in the world. We are looking for great Program Managers to join our Capacity team and work on forecasting, planning, and managing our serving assets, defining datacenter strategy, as well as engaging with the individual OSD business groups and their teams to align their technology evolution with the hardware roadmaps and with OSD as a whole.

This is a very challenging role, requiring deep technical knowledge, good planning and project management skills, analysis, and the ability to work with multiple teams and ramp up on their technologies. You will be working closely with one of the business groups, engaging with their teams and understanding their architecture, as well as working on developing and evolving tools and analysis for the overall capacity management effort. The position requires the ability to do high level programming (for example SQL, Excel, workflows) and work with tools and system such as CRM and ERP.

This is a small team which provides the opportunity for large scale business impact and to establish industry leading process, at a scale which is hard to find not just within Microsoft, but across the whole industry. We are looking for candidates with a very diverse set of experiences, Electrical Engineering (to engage in the definition of our computing SKUs as well as datacenter infrastructure), Process or System Engineers with experience in large scale logistics, Computer Engineers (specially with online services experience), and Math/Statisticians for the analysis work.

These are very independent positions, requiring candidates who are self-directed, can work independently, and have excellent communication and leadership skills. Join us for a very unique experience in an agile online services environment.

The ideal candidate would have driven multiple releases of large products, have proven engagement with multiple partners or feature teams, have great communication and people skills, and be able to understand technical architectures and dependencies. Prior experience with online services would be highly valuable. This position requires engaging with executive level leaders both within OSD and across the company. The online services world brings a new set of challenges in terms of how teams plan and operate, so candidates should be comfortable working in an environment with a great level of uncertainty and changing priorities. Online services is the future, and you get to be a part of it and set in place the best practices and a role model for other teams at Microsoft and across the industry.
