The Director of SEO for MSN will be the executive leader of SEO and SMM (Social Media Marketing) for MSN worldwide. The Director of SEO will be responsible for developing and executing the SEO Strategies, programs and projects that will drive new audience growth for MSN.com, MSN channels and Partner sites. You and your team will work closely with the MSN executive leadership, senior leaders across MSN as well as product managers, analysts, development leads, media and engineering to champion and lead SEO across MSN.

The position requires proven expertise in an executive capacity where SEO was your primary responsibility for a large media and/or search company. Preference shall be given to those with direct client side experience on high volume consumer-facing web properties.

Responsibilities:
§ Lead the creation and execution of the SEO strategy and Program for MSN.
§ Be the chief evangelist and subject matter expert for SEO in MSN.
§ Be accountable for the audience growth achieved through the execution of the SEO program.
§ Lead a small FTE team and group of consultants to work directly with our media, development engineers and other online Product Manager stakeholders to implement and operationalize SEO led/influenced projects.
§ Manage day-to-day activities of the SEO Team and SEO operations including new product initiatives, content optimization, link building campaigns, and reporting & analysis
§ Lead and prioritize SEO projects within business units to ensure SEO traffic and audience strategies goals are met
§ Collaborate with product, content, and technology MSN Leaders and executive team to manage entire lifecycle of SEO initiatives from idea conception to post launch reporting & analysis
§ Lead and prioritize site SEO IA architecture, content and linking projects
§ Deep knowledge, understanding and experience of search engine technology, functionality and optimization tactics
§ Executive level of understanding and experience in Internet business & marketing strategies - how to build, improve and grow a successful property on the web
§ Significant experience with web design, usability, UX/UI, and conversion process
§ Understanding of (though not necessarily code fluent in) XHTML/CSS, JavaScript/Actionscript, basic web server technology, database software/functionality.
§ Substantial expertise and expertise in social media marketing/optimization (SMM/SMO) on the web.
§ Define and lead the long-term SEO strategy for MSN and O&O properties and Partner sites with the goal of continually increasing natural organic search engine traffic & growing select VIP traffic segments
§ Direct the team on direction and operational goals of link building & inbound marketing activities for agency & 3rd party engagements (agencies, consultants, campaigns, etc.)
§ Direct MSN on the definition, monitoring, and analysis of SEO key performance indicators (KPI's) to continually improve campaigns and audience growth from SEO programs and activities
§ Establish the ongoing visit based KPIs and traffic forecasting for all organic search related initiatives
§ Serve as SEO chief evangelist to MSN worldwide.
§ Create an industry research, competitive landscape information, and trade intelligence program for SEO strategy development and optimization
o Develop keyword strategies for optimal on-site performance
o Provide detailed site analysis
o Provide actionable competitive analysis
o Develop detailed recommendations for site changes
o Develop a comprehensive linking strategy
§ Create an education program for content writers, content managers and content partners on SEO best practices
§ Establish the MSN SEO key performance indicators (KPI's) to continually improve campaigns
o Establish SEO audit baselines
o Establish SEO performance baselines
o QA all SEO recommendations, before and after launch
o Analyze monthly search engine performance reports to determine if new optimizations are needed
o Monitor competitor site changes and recommend site changes as necessary

Required Experience:
MA/MSc in Marketing, IT, Computer Science, or related field
Min 8 years related experience, 5+ years of search engine optimization experience (natural/organic search marketing)
Expert understanding and/or knowledge of search engine algorithms and ranking strategies
Expert level experience with web analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Omniture, SEO analytical programs
Executive level experience with keyword research and search engine ranking and analysis tools
Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, and web server environments
High attention to detail, and ability to effectively manage multiple projects
Ability to work independently and synthesize large amounts of data
Executive level analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Executive experience in forming and managing teams and consultants
Extensive search engine and/or SEO experience in a search engine company or large media organization
