We're talking petabytes of data about how searches succeed, how they fail, and how we can improve Bing and our partner properties like maps, commerce, travel, and more.
Every 10 years a new technology comes along that promises to change the way we think about computing. The next 10 years will belong to BigData. Our team is at the forefront of this revolution, building and improving one of the most massive BigData repositories in existence. Our clusters consist of 10,000s of machines processing petabytes of data every day that help data drive products like Bing or Xbox. Our users build pipelines, algorithms and experiments that process trillions of web pages and rows that help create relevant search results or build models for ads targeting and speech recognition.
We are the Cosmos team. We are looking for a Program Manager who is passionate about distributed systems and large scale processing that can make our system efficient and accessible. You will be responsible for driving efficiency for the underlying scheduling and execution engine through new and existing capabilities. You will help customers build efficient distributed jobs using our language. You have experience working side-by-side with domain experts in areas like compilers, optimizers, scheduling components to help define technology roadmaps that will make Cosmos the most performant and cost efficient cluster for today's applications. You are hands-on and not afraid of prototype ideas in code, data driven and have a bias towards shipping. You are comfortable on a fast-pace agile environment while being in charge of setting the team's cadence when needed. Above all, we need your help to lead and drive our vision to continue making Cosmos a core asset that our +4000 developer's use across Microsoft.
To be successful you are:
- Great at problem solving at scale. Our code runs on thousands of machines on multiple continents so you need to think big.
- Demonstrated experience shipping products - on time, prioritize, etc
- 3+ years of industry experience. Prior experience as a Developer or Program Manager is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (Masters or PhD preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in distributed systems, database/repository technology strongly preferred.
