Job Summary: The Indiana University School of Optometry seeks a Scientific Computing Coordinator who will provide high level, systematically-formulated, scientific expertise on software development, especially in the areas of information acquisition and processing. This position works independently to develop new generalized approaches to information extraction, as well as oversees the research computing activities of the Vision Research Core module, including the design and development of scientific software applications to support scientific research. The incumbent will work closely with other modules of the Vision Science Core grant, especially in the areas of hardware specification and customization using modern programmable hardware (DSP, FPGA, etc.). Key components include application of research information and computer science methods and techniques to acquire, sort, manipulate, transform, or present information by means of computer systems.

Required: Master's degree in computer science or informatics and two years of experience in instrumentation, scientific image processing, or multi-dimensional data specialization.

Knowledge of advanced image processing techniques and data abstraction; excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; and good organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to demonstrate initiative to identify, prioritize and resolve problems; substantial knowledge of Windows applications and various computer operating and programming environments; and ability to manage administrative staff.

Ability to work independently while remaining a committed team player; ability to read and learn new technologies and applications quickly; and ability to work with individuals from disparate backgrounds. Hands-on knowledge of network protocols; experience in data abstraction; and familiarity with multi-platform computer requirements. 

Ph.D. Preferred.
