Responsibilities

Pearson Education's Mastering product is the most effective and widely used online tutorial, homework, and assessment system in the world and used by over 1.5 million students across the sciences.

We are looking for a highly creative, detail oriented Lead Web/Mobile UI Developer to participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, working independently and as part of a small team leading and collaborating on UI strategy, design and development of Pearson's Mastering product. The ideal candidate will be well versed in one or more rich-user interface technologies and have a demonstrated history of innovation and solid design/development skills.

Responsibilities:
- Work with UX designers, developers, test engineers, and product managers to design, develop, and test modern, innovative, state-of-the-art web and mobile user interfaces for our instructors and students
- Influence and lead UI technical strategy; act as a technical resource and mentor
- Participate in product design meetings and work collaboratively to determine product architecture
- Determine, document and enforce effective coding practices and lead constructive code review sessions
- Evaluate requirements and initial mock-ups; make technology recommendations that support optimal construction, maintenance and performance
- Leverage the latest developments in Internet technologies
- Working with developers, test engineers, product managers, and customer service to ensure business continuity throughout all phases of the product lifecycle
- Participate in product design meetings and works collaboratively to determine product architecture
- Write documentation to explain code functionality to use as a reference in production cycle, document changes, fixes, and codes
- Recommend, develop, and implement new and innovative processes and technical standards
- Lead large-scale, highly technical projects, working with the staff (developers, project managers, customers, etc.) and vendors to gather requirements, determine and implement solutions
- Evaluate requirements and initial mock-ups; make technology recommendations that support optimal construction, maintenance and performance
- Write proposals and papers, make presentations to internal and external customers and peers, and work closely with senior management Conduct unit testing and integration testing on software for functionality and limits

Qualifications
- BS (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field with 7+ years experience in software development
- Experience with enterprise-level, multi-tier, high-throughput, hosted web application architecture
- Demonstrated programming skills including design, code review, implementation, testing, and debugging
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Solid understanding of database concepts including SQL and DB schemas
- Strong team player and excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, and verbal) and ability to work independently and in a team-based environment
- Ability to estimate task durations and meet schedule in an Agile software development environment
- Expertise in HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, and JQuery is a must.
- Expertise in the following are desired: Angular.js, YUI, PhoneGap, WebSockets, JSON, AJAX, Perl, Oracle, Cassandra, UNIX/Linux, HTTP, XML, XSLT
- Experience in rapid prototyping, test-driven development and continuous delivery
