The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of our next generation of service-based educational tools. Pearson Writer is designed to support the improvement of student writing skills. The application has desktop browser, and mobile app (IOS and Android) implementations. This key role will be responsible for the re-architecting of the browser application to a service-based design.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, and actively participate in a collaborative development environment, designing and implementing the new Writer application.
- Provide expertise and leadership in application and user Interface design, using service oriented methodologies.
- Implement both User Interface and Middleware components.
- Be a technical point of contact for team members, systems and operations teams, and other external teams, providing guidance in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide occasional support to production operations and customer support teams.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree, or equivalent, required.
- At least 5+ years' proven experience in the area of web application systems.
- Strong grasp of object-oriented design and programming practices and patterns.
- Solid experience with most or all of the following technologies is critical: Java/J2EE, Spring MVC, JavaScript, REST-based Web Services, Eclipse, Jquery, CSS, HTML5.
- Additional useful technologies: backbone, mobile application design (IOS and Android).
- Expertise with Windows-based development tools.
- Familiarity working in an Agile project environment.
- Detail-oriented, with ability to take ownership of and manage workload and assigned projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to work collaboratively with team members from varied disciplines.
