Job Description: Database Administrator
- Responsible for database performance monitoring and tuning activities
- Responsible for database space management and planning
- Responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing database upgrades and patches (Oracle & SQL Server)
- Responsible for supporting Development/Implementation/Testing environments
- Responsible for supporting Production environments including repositories for products such as Oracle SOA, Siebel, Identity Manager, Oracle Internet Directory, and Enterprise Data Quality.
- Implementation and support of industry standard and security and audit procedures
- Identifies, Maintains & controls database Servers configuration Items across oracle & SQL server databases
- Working with development teams closely and provide assistance to developers as needed.
- May be required to provide on-call support during the peak load of project delivery
- Knowledge of quality processes.
- Install, upgrade and maintain database software.
- Create appropriate database and database structures based on application usage.
- Automate startup and shutdown of database server processes.
- Define and implement appropriate utilities to monitor database functions and activity.
- Implement scripts to simplify recurring activities, diagnose problems and remediate problems when they occur.
- Implement automated notification via email and/or pager when conditions require immediate attention.
- Work with database management software to determine ways to organize and store data for peak performance and system resource utilization.
- Coordinate database changes with various team leads.
- Prepare a well-defined backup and recovery strategy for the database in the event of database failure.
- Implement automated maintenance of the database-generated log files including archival, compression and eventual expiration of obsolete logs and data files.
- Design and implement appropriate system security functions, including user id maintenance, password complexity and aging, and database user activity auditing.
- Contact vendor support for technical assistance when appropriate.
- Complete and maintain team standard documentation and contract specific documentation.
Required/Desired
Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 7 to 10 years' experience as a DBA managing Oracle, and SQL Server database in a high availability cluster configuration
- Oracle and SQL Server DBA experience required with Redhat Linux or a variant, and performing backup and recovery methods.
- Expert experience with database administration, design, and deployment in a large, complex organization
- Solid understanding of relational database design and performance tuning
- Ability to function in an environment supporting highly available databases
- Experience supporting Oracle and MS SQL database solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with developers and management
- Experience with Oracle products such as Oracle SOA, Siebel, Identity Manager, Oracle Internet Directory, and Enterprise Data Quality preferred
- Prior Healthcare experience is a plus
- Prior Federal/State experience is a plus
