Network Engineer (Mid Level -- Cisco & Juniper)

Reporting to the Manager of Network Support, the Network Data Engineer provides technical support knowledge and expertise in the planning, design, analysis and trouble isolation for the Production data network infrastructure. This position requires advanced IP Networking knowledge and strong written and verbal communication skills. The individual should also possess the ability to interface with all levels internal and external contacts.

Essential Job Functions:

* Manage and close escalations and incidents from NOC and lead trouble resolution - mixed environment  -- Cisco Juniper.

*  F5 experience a plus.

* Provide documentation for NOC and other departments for common tasks

* Manage both internal and external routes to provide optimal performance on IP based networks

* Carry out interoperability testing of equipment and software with services

* Analyze trends to determine performance and recommend corrective actions

* Internal knowledge transfer to implementation and support teams regarding new solutions or

* Proposed changes to network infrastructure

* Lead Maintenance activities and upgrades of architecture components

* Develop routing and access solutions for new applications and services

* Mentor and or coach junior team members' technical issues and trouble isolation procedures

Specific Requirements (Technical Knowledge, Software, Etc.):

* Certifications in Cisco and Juniper preferred

* Intermediate to advanced knowledge of IP protocols such as RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS and BGP

* Intermediate to advanced knowledge of traffic management protocols such as MPLS, QoS, RSVP

* Intermediate to advanced knowledge of layer 2 technologies like RSTP, STP, Frame Relay, and Ethernet

* Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Load balancers technology F5 preferred

* Intermediate to advanced knowledge of VPN technology (remote access, site to site, IPSEC, etc)

* Experience with Packet capturing and protocol analysis (TCP, UDP, ICMP, packet dissection, etc)

* Knowledge of DNS & DHCP protocols (managing large multi-tiered DNS & DHCP)

* A strong understanding of WAN transport technologies such as SONET, SDH and DWDM

* Familiarity with VoIP protocols such as SIP, H.323, MGCP, SDP and RTP
