Telecommunications Switch Engineer

Prestigious Telecommunications Provider in Chicago is currently seeking a Switch Engineer. Candidate will engineer, install, operate and maintain all Voice and VoIP related switching equipment and network translations, in addition to providing Tier 2/3 escalation of voice, translations, call routing and quality issues.

Responsibilities:

• Install, monitor and analyze voice network infrastructure and its element. Evaluate physical and virtual capacity, usage against total available capacity, and overall network well being. Make recommendations for performance improvements and/or capacity augments as necessary.
• Provide tier 2/3 technical expertise, support and training to Operations and Network Services departments on voice and VoIP services as it relates to customer test and turn-ups, troubles, and service order related issues, in addition to assisting customers in complex problem isolation and resolution.
• Manage all switch translations including periodic LCR updates for, Inter and Intrastate, and International routing. Test, evaluate and implement new carriers for LCR.
• Perform capacity planning, and reporting for all switched based routing.
• Support Engineering and Product Management in the development and expansion of voice/VoIP based services to include testing and updating of procedures and technical specifications.
• Schedule and perform network after-hour maintenance, when required.
• Audit and validate CDRs related to e911, local, LD, International, CABs and reciprocal compensation as needed.

Qualifications:

• Telecommunications service provider installation, maintenance or engineering experience with Legacy TDM Switches and next generation softswitch platforms, with specific experience in the areas of complex translations, switch and traffic engineering. Working knowledge of SS7, CNAM/LIDB, and 911 are a must.
• Hands-on experience with the Alcatel -Lucent LCS 5010, ACME SBC, and the Force10/Turin DCS a plus.
• Ability to effectively prioritize, use time efficiently and manage competing demands in an expeditiously, calm, organized and decisive manner.
• Ability to work independently and problem solve quickly with a limited amount of supervision.
• Ability to effectively manage customer expectations and respond promptly to customer needs.
