Beacon Hill Technologies in Indpendence, Ohio, is currently recruiting for a Linux Systems Administrator for a client also located in Independence, Ohio. The ideal candidate for this position would be very strong in Linux, Windows, and VMware technologies. Job Description
The Linux/Windows Systems Administrator will be responsible for working with the team to design, install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain hardware/software on Linux and Windows platforms as well as perform other activities to ensure availability and functionality of the production environment. The Linux/Windows Systems Administrator will also be responsible for providing third-tier technical support to the Service Desk and Enterprise Applications teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs moderately complex systems and database administration. Monitors and tunes appropriate systems to ensure optimum level of performance.
- Oversees appropriate level software installations and upgrades and related software packages.
- Collects and reviews system data for capacity and planning purposes. Analyzes capacity data and develops capacity plans for appropriate level enterprise-wide systems. Coordinates with appropriate management personnel in implementing changes.
- Supports the design and configuration of complex system landscapes.
- Supports complex data/media recoverability through system backups and database archive operations. Plans, coordinates and directs appropriate level data refresh strategies.
- Oversees, recommends and implements appropriate level database solutions and enhancements to ensure an improvement in system reliability and performance.
- Oversees and applies appropriate support packages/patches to maintain system integrity.
- Develop and maintain systems documentation and systems management procedures.
- Interacts with business units as required to answer questions, problems and requests regarding complex system issues.
- Participates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex solutions. Coordinates activities with other technical personnel as appropriate.
- Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Maintain and update system hardware, software, and configuration data
Position Requirements:
- College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or two to four years equivalent work experience in the field of Information Technology.
- At least 3 years prior hands-on experience designing, implementing and supporting Linux.
- At least three years prior experience administering and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Servers.
- At least three years prior experience working in an enterprise level IT environment.
- Hands-on experience administering VMware vSphere 4 and 5 infrastructure highly desired.
- Strong understanding of networking and TCP/IP.
- Excellent customer service skills required with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
- Strong problem management, organizational, time management and resource allocation skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong written, presentation and oral communication skills
- Strong understanding and commitment to the IT organization's goals and objectives.
- Ability to conduct research into issues and products as required
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Strong commitment to business ethics
