JOB SUMMARY:
SAIC has a career opening for a Network Engineer to join the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Mission Assurance Support Capability (MASC) in the USNORTHCOM Theater NETOPS Center (TNC) at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO. The MASC supports the NORTHCOM TNC by providing systems and network management technical expertise to deliver DISA and DISN services to the Combatant Commander and provide the Combatant Commander with situational awareness of the current state of DISN and NORTHCOM systems and networks. The job of the Network Engineer is to provide overall network engineering including planning, analysis and evaluating networks and systems supporting a regional Combatant Command. This position requires shift work and limited, infrequent travel for training and conference attendance, with trips not anticipated to be longer than 5 days each.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the technical expert responsible for planning, evaluating, analyzing, monitoring, operating, managing, troubleshooting and restoring to service the extensions of the DISN networks, including data, voice and video.
Maintain awareness of and determine operational impact resulting from unavailability or degradation of the DISN networks, systems, or applications supporting the USNORTHCOM Area of Responsibility.
Knowledge of terrestrial and satellite communications and the ability to rapidly synthesize complex information to develop a course of action.
Receive assignments in the form of objectives, establishes methods to achieve the objective and works within defined practices to achieve the objective.
Work under general supervision on problems of moderate scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of various factors.
Exercise independent judgment within broadly defined policies and procedures in selecting methods to achieve results of keeping networks operational.
Maintain constant situational awareness over computing services, network operations (terrestrial and satellite), and security in support of USNORTHCOM within the scope of the DISA MASC mission.
Utilize tools such as the Integrated Network Management System to perform proactive monitoring of network element alarms and alerts to identify causes of network actual or potential degradation or failure.
Provide a communications link between the USNORTHCOM TNC and the DISA network support hierarchy.
Basic knowledge of Information Assurance and Computer Network Defense principles as they apply to networks.
Provide time-critical, mission enabling information to designated users within USNORTHCOM and other organizations.
Will perform other duties as directed by the team lead.

Qualifications:
BASIC Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline and 4+ years of related experience. Additional years experience may be used in lieu of a degree.
Candidates must possess a Top Secret clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Past experience in similar positions.
Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing operational requirements.
Strong working knowledge of information, computer and communications security principles.
Knowledge of the USNORTHCOM and DISA missions and systems.
Direct military experience in this field.
