CLINICAL PROJECT MANAGER QUALITY/SAFETY
Supports the MedStar Quality and Safety mission by managing specific clinical process improvement projects to desired outcomes. Uses evidence-based, best practice models to design, plan, and gain acceptance on areas of clinical practice where systemwide improvements in patient care can be achieved. Once approved, identifies and secures necessary resources, builds collaborative teams, assigns responsibilities, sets schedules and timelines, and leads projects to successful conclusion in agreed upon timelines that result in outcomes based improvements in quality of care and/or clinical care processes. These responsibilities require close alignment and a strong working relationship with the clinical practice leadership in each of the MedStar hospitals and non-acute care facilities with particular focus on clinical policies and procedures, and the relevant governance structures. Provides or brings in subject matter and process expertise while working within a project management environment, under the direction of the VP for Quality and Safety. Facilitates the MedStar processes of integration of clinical knowledge and the adoption of evidence-based practices and health information technology. When appropriate, contributes to the execution of Meaningful Use objectives and documentation of meeting Meaningful Use criteria.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in a relevant clinical discipline.
EXPERIENCE:
2 years of project management experience in a health system or complex interdisciplinary acute care clinical environment. Experience in working within a team environment - as member, facilitator, and process manager. Proven record of managing projects to successful completion. Clinical experience as a mid-level provider or clinician highly desirable. Experience with EHR as user or designer preferred; knowledge management experience helpful. Experience in working within program or project management framework highly desirable. Data, policy, or records management experience helpful.
LICENSE/CERT/REG: Clinical License as relevant.
Skills:
Facilitation of sizeable groups of clinician leaders re: consensus development and best practices; research and systematic documentation skills including collaboration on database design and report metrics, strong skills in relationship management in both leadership and staff environments. Evidence and clinical content management review skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Builds relationships with both entity and corporate clinician and leaders pertinent to clinical decision process improvement projects with documentation and evaluation of outcomes.
Coordinates clinical policy review cycles with local entities for all policies affected by project workflow or content changes in clinical practice within the EHR as directed.
Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
Executes the strategy for documentation of clinical evidence based practice and outcomes at MedStar.
Facilitates system level task forces or councils to plan, implement, and coordinate clinical process improvement project activities relevant to knowledge management as directed.
Participates as a member of the Clinical Quality Improvement Management team in the execution of relevant objectives in meeting reimbursement and accreditation criteria.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriae. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
Participates in the established MedStar Content Management and Content Change Management Processes as assigned by Manager.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supports reporting infrastructure on the creation, use, and retirement of specific clinical knowledge content as directed.
Uses established management system for management of all clinical documentation standards (such as standards of practice and instrument repositories), including appropriate interface with entity-based Content Coordinators, consensus groups, and local Clinical Informatics leadership.
Works with IS counterparts for any design, build, and testing aspects of process improvement knowledge management as directed.
May be required to travel to various locations as needed. Reliable transportation may be required.
Working at another site and/or other MedStar departments or programs may be required.
REPORTS TO: Quality Director and/or AVP Quality and Safety.
