The System administrator is a member of the team providing Information Technology Operations & Maintenance Support Services to the US Coast Guard's Research and Development Center in New London, CT. In this role, the candidate will interact with customers on a daily basis to troubleshoot and solve user and infrastructure issues related to, but not limited to, personal computing devices, Servers, storage devices, Switches, Routers, user device software, server software, e-mail, among others. The candidate must possess the necessary interpersonal, customer service, and technical skills to perform these duties.

The typical day-to-day activities include the following:

- Performing LAN administration, network security/management, network hardware and software including CISCO Switches
- Manage IP Networks and networking, virtual private networking, security architecture, and systems/technologies and protocols including: DHCP, TCP/IP, FTP, DNS, AD domains, HTTP and Proxy Servers.
- Troubleshoot network and computer hardware/software problems.
- Maintain wireless (802.11) LAN including security measures
- Manage Internet Information Server 4.0/5.0 systems.
- Plan, optimize, install, and configure Windows Operating System Workstation clients.
- Configure/manage remote access services
- Install, configure, and manage R&DC SIPRNET system
- Configure/manage tape backup hardware and software.
- Manage/track IT equipment for accurate inventory using VAM and surplus inventory
- Support Microsoft server/client applications and PC hardware.
- Analyze and optimize system configurations and network structures to maximize performance
- Conduct Microsoft/vendor recommended procedures
- Support Information Security Requirements including certification and accreditation in accordance with FISMA
- Consult on design, configuration, installation, management, etc of project systems.
- Maintain and manage Windows 2003/2008 DELL Servers - Data, Apps, Web, Terminal, Goodlink, and Exchange
- Support and administer Windows VISTA/Office 2007 desktops/laptops
- Conduct performance analysis and provide recommendations
- Provide informal user training on Windows Vista, Office suites, VPN, Directory resource usage
- Support and maintain system security according to USCG & R&D Center's security plans
- Interact with vendors to maintain hardware warranty for Servers, workstations, printer, and network devices
- Manage CGMS to maintain CG user access to CG messaging system
- Support and maintain Directory management (users, computers, groups, printers)
- Interact with customer service desk, CGFixIt, to support/maintain CG Enterprise system support and work with CSD/TISCOM/EMF
- Support and maintain user management on Wireless LAN system (public access)
- Support and maintain Cisco VoIP CallManager/Unity phone system to include user/phone add, move, and change
- Support and maintain WDS, Ghost, PXE Servers for Workstation image creation and distribution
- Support and maintain GoodLink Wireless Communication devices and laptops for OWA/CAC RAS access for remote/travelling workers
- Support and maintain CD/DVD labeling system to performed mass creation of CD and DVD with labels for end users
- Assist in developing customer reports (eg, monthly status report)

Hours of Operation:

The normal working work/business hours are flextime starting between 7:00 and 9:00 am and finishing between 3:30 and 5:30 pm, Monday - Friday (except Federal holidays). There will be occasions where the candidate will need to work other than the normal work hours (evenings and weekends). These will be scheduled by the customer.
