Description
We are looking to add a Senior Systems Engineer to our high performing team to participate in supporting Servers running Microsoft technologies for the legal strategic business unit. Key to this position is taking the technical direction from architecture and implementing it within the team and workgroup, and then providing analysis. This includes participating in major technical initiatives, providing experienced day-to-day support and engineering functions, as well as being a contributor to the solutions design process. Good professional communication skills and developing technical and organizational leadership capability are integral to this position.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Technology
- Help implement technical strategy for the Windows team, including adoption of new tools and procedures.
- Participate in technical initiatives across the workgroup such as Operating System life cycle management or PCI audit compliance.
- Technical resource for the solutions design process.
- Support enterprise environment with ~8000 Intel-based Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 Servers, including patching and other related software/agents.
- Participate in testing and evaluation of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality.
- Stay current on industry trends and new technologies and recommend future projects.
Operations
- Contribute to a variety of virtual teams with members of multiple groups to proactively address support issues.
- Lead server performance trending and problem root cause analysis.
- Follow policies and procedures for change and incident management.
- Work to consistently exceed team task performance metrics.
- Submit weekly time accounting.
- Carry a 24x7 pager and participate in rotating pager schedule.
Business
- Exhibit strong organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
- Contribute to strategic vision development for the Windows team.
- Develop and maintain good trust relationships with internal customers supported by the team.
- Develop a solid understanding of supported product lines and technologies.
- Understand and help define internal business processes.
- Translate business requirements and architectural standards into technical solutions.
Leadership & Communication
- Contribute to the CPS Legal Windows leadership team.
- Provide coaching and guidance to systems engineers.
- Lead projects providing task direction to achieve goals.
- Recommend process improvements.
- Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned work for later reference.
- Develop leadership qualities and conduct business and communicate in a professional and courteous manner.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or 5 years' experience in related work experience.
Knowledge and Skills
Requirements
- Knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems.
- Active Directory experience.
- Server virtualization experience.
- Knowledge of supporting services - Antivirus, Backup, Monitoring, etc.
- Enterprise ITIL service management experience
- Scripting/automation skills
- Demonstrable Customer Focus attitude.
- Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Well versed in project management methodologies.
Preferred
- Microsoft Certified Professional in Windows 2003 or above.
- Understanding of storage, network, and hardware technologies.
- Proficient with web and development technologies.
