Description

Summary:

Looking for a candidate with a strong Java background. This person will have the opportunity to learn the business domain, develop, do enhancements in Java and become the Subject Matter Expert(SME) in their domain. The candidate will also be responsible for working with business areas, project teams, and IT technical teams, as well as outsourced vendors to ensure high quality application support and delivery services. Provides code-level operational support, and assists with maintenance and enhancement activity to support all aspects of application delivery. Focus is on upgrades to existing software for small to medium project work as assigned by higher level staff.

Accountabilities:

1. Assists with supporting and performing maintenance on new or existing software products, understanding application integration points and troubleshooting production problems.
2. Assists in coding, testing, and debugging new software or making enhancements to existing software.
3. Writes programs according to specifications for problem solving from higher level staff.
4. Works with technical team members to review and understand less complex software problems and quality technical solutions.
5. May convert project specifications and procedures to detailed logical flow charts for coding into computer language.
6. Assists in writing documentation to describe program development, logic, coding and corrections.
7. Consults with IT technical resources regarding system scope, objectives and solutions based on user needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated ability to code, test, and debug less complex software programs. Acquiring basic business and industry knowledge. Strong analytical, PC and problem solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated human relations skills to effectively interact with management, peers, and internal/external vendors.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Acquiring basic knowledge of BCBS computer methodologies.
- Acquiring basic knowledge of one or more BCBS business areas Technical Certification.
- Participation in user groups (ACM, IEEE).
