Job Description: Sr. Database Administrator

The Healthcare and Compliance group at CGI Federal is looking for a Sr. Database Administrator to be part of a large team in a dynamic and changing environment. Projects include delivering technology and application management services for mission critical applications and infrastructure in the federal healthcare space.

Federal healthcare is moving to a more cost-effective shared services model to remove silos and to leverage applications and platforms across multiple organizations. CGI provides healthcare departments and agencies with in-depth functional and technical expertise to adopt these strategies and to offer clients a focused set of solutions that help federal health organizations become more productive, cost-effective, secure and service-oriented.

The Sr. Database Administrator will be responsible for providing professional and effective technical consulting services to client organizations while performing the functions in support of various web hosting database technologies including, but not limited to gluster, RDBMS, file storage, MySQL, and clustering.

Specific responsibilities include:

-Ability to provide advice on architect database design for large, complex database systems utilizing an array of database technology to support web hosting applications (Oracle, MySQL, HADOOP, MarkLogic)
-Administer, maintain, develop and recommend policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company's databases and systems
-Able to work in a team-oriented environment and as a member of the production support team and guide the junior Database Administrators
-Manage large databases with high transaction volume in a fast-paced production environment
-Anticipate hardware requirements and storage capacity planning for Development, Testing, QA, Staging, and Production for scalable database growth and performance
-Responsible for database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, high-availability strategies for a suite of RDBMS software such as Oracle and MySQL in a 24x7 production environment
-Provide support to Application Teams and QE to debug database related issues
-Develop and implement replication, archiving and backup and recovery strategies
-Create and implement scripts using UNIX shell, Window bat, SQL, PLSQL and/or batch jobs for DB monitoring, DB refreshes and day to day DBA task
-Proactively optimize stored procedures for better performance. Resolve locking conflicts/blocking and resource utilization
-Excellent problem-solving skills, a self-starting attitude and good communication and documentation skills
-Willing to respond to emergencies that require immediate attention including those that occur off hours
-Identify and resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues and other distributed data issues
-Able to research Oracle/MySQL errors and other database related topics as required. Be able to educate junior DBAs in techniques of problem solving to enhance work efficiency.
-Apply/coordinate patches for bug fixes and recommended upgrades as allowed by the application
-Coordinate and perform database migrations across platforms according to client requirements
-Attend and contribute to client and internal meetings addressing database questions and status
-Create and/or assist in creation of design documents and other project deliverables
-Comply with project documentation standards directed by QA Manager
-Understand work plan activities, and provide accurate status on work completion
-Estimate task time requirements and plan accordingly
-Understand and work within task scope
-Prioritize tasks

Requirements:

-Must have a Bachelor's degree
-Must have 7 years or more experience of Oracle and MySQL experience on UNIX/Linux and Windows platforms
-Experience with replication and clustering including Oracle data guard, Streams log shipping, Oracle RAC and HADOOP
-Strong experience managing clustered environments for both Oracle and MySQL
-Familiarity with MarkLogic preferred
-Troubleshooting experience quickly diagnosing issues reported by production and non-production users and provide resolution
-Experience with RDBMS database installation on these platforms including Oracle Client software and DBA tool software such as OEM, Grid Control etc
-Strong experience using RMAN utility for backup/cloning of databases
-Ability to work independently on projects with minimal direction
-Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word
-Strong interpersonal skills and effective team player
-Good verbal/written communication skills
-Strong prioritization skills with a clear ability to communicate clearly and concisely
-Must be able to successfully pass/complete a CGI background check to start employment
