Research Scientist - 718075

Description

Job Description: Responsibilities may be quite diverse of a software technical nature. Experience and education requirements will vary significantly depending on the unique needs of the job. Job assignments are usually for the summer or for short periods during breaks from school.

We are researching novel programming models for very-high-core-count machines (extending into "extreme scale" computing). Our research agenda involves decomposing applications into fine-grained tasks with explicit control- and data- flow dependences, allowing for expression of tradeoffs among performance/energy efficiency/reliability and for dynamic adaptation within the system as load and policies change.

This work will result in a prototype runtime system, including tendrils downward into the OS and upward into compilation systems. Prototype environments include multi-socket many-core Xeon platforms, as well as current and anticipated Xeon PHI (MIC) machines.

The project will involve close collaboration with academia (faculty and grad students), government agencies, and Intel product groups. We are also actively involved in generation of intellectual property (publications, patents). Candidate should must be able to work in geographically-distributed teams with strong collaboration among team members is also a plus.

Qualifications

Minimum skills and experience:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience
Candidate must have 6 months + of work or educational experience with the following:
- Demonstrated aptitude for systems research, as shown by experience in problem decomposition, practical development of nontrivial prototype systems, and/or publication history in workshops/conferences.
- Good skills in C-language software development are required.

Preferred skills and experience:

Deep familiarity with systems software (compiler through OS), parallel programming (MPI, pthreads), and/or multicore architecture are highly desired.
