In this position, you will be part of server manageability Platform application engineering (PAE) group. A Platform Application Engineer (PAE) Firmware engineer is responsible for working with customers and architects to drive customer firmware requirements into Workstation and Server platform designs. Duties may include support for power management of servers, methodologies to debug server platforms and other new and emerging server manageability features for various customer segments such as enterprise, HPC, and data centers. Responsibilities include resolving and tracking customer issues related to the manageability firmware on customer designs, involving BIOS, drivers, hardware and other platform components, and developing/supporting documents and application notes.

As a PAE, you will be responsible to solve customer issues at different levels including architectural level, development level and at a procedural level. It is an excellent opportunity to get customer experience through a very technical role. You will also have the opportunity to also learn about many platform components beyond firmware, including BIOS, hardware, LAN, and others.

Responsibilities also include sighting management, and collaborating with other organizations such as firmware development, system validation and other hardware teams to resolve issues together. In addition, the individual will coordinate with other global organizations.

This role requires an energetic attitude towards problem solving and interaction with many organizations in several geos, field engineers to development, validation and architecture. A strong technical background is required with the ability to lead task forces and initiatives supporting customer designs to match launch plans. Other requirements for this job include: strong written and verbal communication and being able to work in a team environment.

Frequently this position requires creating firmware adaptations(software development) for proof of concept efforts.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum qualifications
BS/MS in Computer/Electrical Engineering discipline, and:
- 3+ years of software and platform troubleshooting experience
- 3+ years of software development in an Embedded environment
- 3+ years of experience with C/C++

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Internal and external customer interfacing experience
- Excellent overall understanding of server architecture with knowledge of one or more of the following:
- firmware/hardware design, Microprocessor architecture, chipset architecture, or system architecture
- IPMI or manageability technologies
- Ability to gather customer requirements and influence Intel product definition
- Ability to step through complex code and understand code flow
- BIOS knowledge
- Cross geo interaction
- Scripting skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
