Prestigious Fortune 500 Firm is  seeking a highly skilled, motivated and knowledgeable Sr. Manager/IT Director of Platform Engineering to manage Windows, UNIX, iSeries, Storage, Email, Middleware, Virtualization, back up services and the infrastructure team. Must have 10+ years of management, infrastructure engineering, not just operations support, true engineering over Unix, AIX, Linux, Windows, iSeries, etc. Must come from an extremely large environment (2000+ server environment). Must know Middleware and cloud, both private and public, no outsourced technologies. Looking for a high energy individual a strong leadership personality.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage a 2000+ Server global enterprise infrastructure.
  • At least 2 datacenters
  • Mix of unix, windows, iseries (optional)
  • Not an outsource arrangement
  • Directly responsible for engineering team and tier 3/4 support
  • Provide engineering and architecture leadership and administrative management oversight for the Core Infrastructure Team.
  • Team size (30 - 80) [interested in engineers; not operational role]
  • Responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership for ongoing projects.  -foundational projects [availability 4 9's, scalability, performance, security]

o    virtualization [server, desktop, app]
o    monitoring and measuring key infrastructure components and metrics

  • Develop, manage and mentor engineering staff - Hire/Fire
  • Provide the technical leadership and strategic vision and planning for all core operating systems and platform technologies for a large enterprise data services.
  • Develop and administer annual operating and capital budgets $20+ M
  • Analyze operational methods, integration and monitoring tools and support processes in order to maintain and improve efficiency and stability.

  • Develop, test, and update disaster recovery technologies to support the disaster recovery plan for all the data center complexes. 2 datacenters; Austin and houston

Required:

  • 12+ years of experience managing Infrastructure Engineering, Architectural, Operational and project teams.
  • 3+ years of hands on experience as a Sr. Manager/Director of technical professionals and projects within a large enterprise environment.
  • Proven professional in depth technical knowledge of modern data center technologies. 
  • Currently in a role managing Engineering/Architecture in the following technical disciplines:
    o    E-Mail - MS/Exchange 25,000 mailboxes, blackberry, ipad, good technology, active sync
    o    OS - AIX, Linux, Windows 2003/08 (50/50 blended OS environment)
    o    Middleware Applications - WebSphere, tomcat, jboss, WebLogic
    o    Web server - Apache, IIS
    o    IBM iSeries OS
    o    Virtualization - vmware, Citrix
    o    Storage - emc, hitachi, netapp, brocade, Veritas
    o    Lync, AD, DHCP, DNS
    o    Network (WAN) and Telecommunications (preferred)
    o    DBA (preferred)
    o    Hardware: HP, DELL, IBM
    o    Datawarehousing (preferred)
    o    Clustering technology (Veritas, redhat)
    o    Emerging Service Oriented Architecture technologies
    o    Replication - SRDF, Truecopy, datagaurd, goldengate, Veritas vvr
    o    Policies best practices and procedures - ITIL, Corbit
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • Lots of passion, energetic, very driven, self starter, CAN DELIVER, result oriented
  • Comfortable architecting, leading engineering meetings, signoff on engineering projects.
  • Capacity and performance architect experience
  • Transactional throughput and latency
  • Coming from an environment where per second/min infrastructure downtime costs huge financial penalties.
