We are seeking an uncommon professional to join our team as an IT Director, Corporate Support.

This role supports Finance, Actuarial, HR, Legal, and Ethics & Compliance as well as other general corporate wide applications. This role is responsible for establishing the technology vision and strategy, leading an application development and support team, executing large/complex initiatives, ensuring system reliability and overall technology health, and serving as strategic business partner to multiple organizations.

Staff management currently includes 5 direct reports with ~65 personnel including employees, onsite and offshore contractors, and other external resources. This individual will also be responsible for overseeing a $12 million dollar budget which will likely grow due to planned investments.

A key area of focus will be Finance transformation. This individual will work directly with Finance leadership to establish the strategy and ensure successful execution. A large multi-year IT investment is planned to upgrade and replace core financial systems to support the Finance strategy. PeopleSoft Financials will be one of the core technologies along with a new data integration and reporting architecture. In addition, Actuarial will continue a multi-million dollar, multi-year investment in establishing a common actuarial platform for life and health insurance products. Investments in technology to manage enterprise risk are also currently under consideration.

Given the number of business areas supported, this individual will face-off with a variety of business leaders including individuals at the VP and SVP levels. As a result, executive presence and communication skills are vitally important. This individual is expected to run all aspects of Corporate Support IT. In addition, continuous improvement and effective sourcing/vendor management are required to drive efficiency.

Key Considerations

The following are key considerations in assessing potential candidates.

1. Strategic - Must be able to assess, create, and communicate a technology strategy, which ultimately enables business strategies. This will be particularly important in the Finance and Actuarial space. Individual will serve as the IT owner for a broad portfolio of systems and must be able to assess and evaluate new technologies.

2. Large, complex software solutions - Must be able to manage complex software projects and packages and have a proven track record of delivering large technology projects. Experience managing large packaged ERP or financial solutions would be very valuable. Familiarity with SaaS, cloud computing, and other delivery type of models would also be valued.

3. Project management - Strong project management skills with prior large project implementation experience. Familiar with SDLC and able to work within existing CUNA Mutual Group processes . Familiarity with Agile delivery methods would be beneficial. Must also be able to work well with Program Management Office.

4. Team Development - Must be a strong people leader with focus on talent development. Current team is strong - individual must be able to further develop and position team for future success based on strategy adopted. Leader must fit in well with existing management team and collaborate across the organization.

5. Financial Analysis and Reporting - Must understand the finance function and be able to provide insight on technology solutions which drive efficiency and increase value by providing more business insight.

6. Business Partner - Must be able to build strong customer relationships and be respected by his/her customers. Must be proactive in bringing ideas and concepts to the business. Strong communication and collaboration skills are required.

7. Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, Risk Management - Knowledge of these business areas would be very beneficial.

8. Vendor Management - Experience managing software vendors and contracts. Experience leveraging offshore consulting models and establishing a sourcing strategy. Effectively work with sourcing team.

9. Continuous Improvement - Experience driving efficiency and productivity leveraging continuous improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma type of methodologies.

10. Leadership - Interest and capability of moving beyond Director role - capable of being successor to VP.
