We are a large and growing .com seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with extensive Hadoop experience to join a group of talented engineers in our Datawarehousing group who are passionate about building a great web site. You will will work at the center of a world-class engineering team in our operations department to help implement our second-generation data warehouse based on the combination of Hadoop, Hive, and Microsoft SQL Server. You will help to help build and manage our data analytics environment, which currently contains over 150TB of data. We expect the size of the data to double over the next year and we are building a scalable framework to enable this growth. Qualified candidates must be able to hit the ground running in cluster operations and will have the opportunity to hone their software development skills with guidance from senior programmers.

What you need for this position:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a Linux environment
- Fluent with advanced Shell Scripting plus another Scripting language such as Python, Ruby, or Perl.
- Experience installing and operating Linux or UNIX Servers and applications in a 24/7 production environment
- Familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres, MySql, or MS SQL Server
- Organized, good attention to details, and able to work independently
- Comfortable in a fast-paced operations environment with frequent interruptions
- Strong written and verbal communications in English
- BS in Computer Science or related technical field
- Ability to analyze and categorize data, find aberrations, and draw conclusions
- Experience with a statically typed, object-oriented language, such as Java, C++, or C#
- Experience with performance tuning and system load monitoring and diagnostics
- Understanding of fundamental data structures and algorithms
- Familiarity with ETL goals such as data management and data quality
What you will be doing:
- Ensuring the reliable operation of our analytic cluster running Hadoop, Hive, and other open-source technologies
- Building operational automation and developer tools for our analytic environment
- Troubleshooting, remediating, and deploying solutions for operational issues
- Participating in the research, design, and implementation of new technologies for scaling our growing data sets and processing pipelines, for performance improvement and for analyst and developer workload reduction
