The Data Center Technician provides network and system technical expertise and is responsible for ensuring that the performance of the current network infrastructure is maintained, for ensuring the successful integration of any new infrastructure elements and for the on-going maintenance of all support systems.

Accountabilities:

- Responsible for on-going technical support to existing systems through up-dates and application of patches to the network and operating systems, for the quality testing and system security measures
- Responsible for the successful integration of new infrastructure, such as routers,switches,NAS storage arrays, etc., through the formulation and structuring of the critical technology elements of installation, configuration and deployment.
- Responsible for the programing, implementation and integration of any and all changes and/or upgrades to the network and operating systems.
- Responsible not only for ensuring that all programming changes and/or up-dates, up-grades and application of patches are successfully integrated, but that all other operating areas of the system have not been corrupted by any changes made and that the integrity of the overall system has remained intact.
- Provides troubleshooting expertise against any system and/or network operating issues and ensures, at the same time, that any and all security threats are appropriately mitigated.
- Provides expertise and support to the administration of the Linux and Windows operating systems and to the software support packages, such as, Apache,MySQL and Sendmail.
- Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and administration of the back-up and support systems and web servers.
- Acts as a key technical escalation point for concerns and activities related to technical aspects of the network and operating systems. Determines, promptly, resolution of any technical issues impacting customers or other project related groups.
- Represents Hostopia.com as an industry leader to competitors, customers, suppliers, professional colleagues and employees. Keeps abreast of technology, industry, consumer, customer, legal developments or trends that may impact the Company.Maintains a high standard of personal professionalism.

Required:

- Knowledge of Shell scripting, BASH, PERL, PYTHON, VB/WSH Scripting
- At least 1 year experience of installing and supporting Linux distributions.
- Understanding of shared storage (ie NAS and SAN).
- Knowledge of Internet technologies (ie Apache, DNS, SSL, IIS, Load balancing)
- Good understanding of file systems and the various RAID options available.
- Understanding of physical networking and network protocols, services and security including: TCP/IP, Switching, Routing, VLAN's, DNS, DHCP, NFS and Samba.
- Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work well under pressure.
- Ability to work on your own initiative.
- Experience of diagnosing and fixing technical problems across a variety of hardware platforms
