Description
Project Management, Process Engineering and Technical Support - the primary function of this position is to manage capital and expense projects that fall under the responsibility of the Midwest Regional Engineering Service Center. The individual will manage multiple projects, usually between $500K and $5,000K. The individual will also be expected to provide process engineering support on larger capital projects.

This individual will work with the linked sites to:
- Develop project scopes, generate and/or obtains cost estimates, and prepare appropriation funding requests. Ensure that appropriate project safety reviews are completed as required both before and after approval. Utilize applicable value-improving practices (VIP's) to optimize project scope and costs.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promote a safe working environment for project execution.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with assigned project manufacturing representatives to execute projects from initial scoping and funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and then final documentation and closure.
- Request and coordinate required process and discipline engineering and design resources, whether from the site or corporate groups or outside engineering vendors, to prepare engineering design deliverables and to procure equipment, fabricated materials, and services.
- Adhere to current corporate and plant requirements for equipment/materials specifications and vendor preferences.
- Maintain SAP project data entries, monitor project progress through scheduling and other tools, perform project status reporting, and control spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.
- Perform procurement support activities as required, including preparing specifications, issuing requisitions, evaluating bids, and dealing with vendors. Works with Procurement and complies with applicable guidelines.
- Request necessary construction and commissioning resources from Construction and others as required to install the scope of work.
- Monitor and support construction activities to ensure that projects are completed according to the design deliverables, quality standards, and plant requirements, and that pre-startup safety reviews are conducted.
- Follow through to ensure that Operations achieves a successful project startup, and that any project-related action items are completed.

This person will become highly integrated into the NCE/W organization through project and technical assistance request support.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Required:
A BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and at least 13 years professional experience is required. An advanced degree and/or professional engineering license is desired but not required.

Approximately 10 to 15 years combined experience as a Project Manager and disciplined engineer. The following skill sets are considered critical qualities that the candidate must possess:
- Very strong customer focus capabilities to closely interact with multiple organizational levels,
- Demonstrated work experience in project execution,
- A strong technical background in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and demonstrated experience in the chemical industry where related technical skills were applied.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, administrative, personal motivation and personal adaptability skills,
- Working knowledge of chemical process equipment including but not limited to rotating equipment, heat transfer, solids handling, storage tanks and vessels.

Desired: The following attributes are considered desired skill sets that the candidate would benefit from:
- Knowledge of the BASF Project Execution Roadmap
- Working knowledge of process measurement and control instruments
- Basic understanding of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Ability to interact and communicate at a high competency level in manufacturing technical discussions.
