Responsibilities
The Senior Editorial Project Manager (Team Lead - HSSL) is responsible for working with Project Managers to manage and oversee assigned projects from strategic planning, content planning, author management and controlling the program scope, cost/budget, time schedules, quality and timely delivery of all program components.
Reporting to the Director of Project Management, the Senior Project Manager will train, mentor, and supervise the daily activity of a team of approximately 8 Project Managers.
The Senior Editorial Project Manager (Team Lead - HSSL) will have full accountability for the final quality of the team's projects in terms of overall quality, accuracy, budget, schedule, and for achieving project goals.
TheSenior Editorial Project Manager (Team Lead - HSSL) ensures that projects comply with corporate and workflow policies and guidelines. The Senior Project Manager will monitor schedules and workloads across their team, coordinate with other Senior Program and Project Managers to ensure optimal workload assignments, evaluate program/project specifications and schedule milestones and liaise regularly with in-house departments, in-house management, and outsource partners to position products for quality and on time delivery.
The Senior Editorial Project Manager (Team Lead - HSSL) will engage daily in problem solving, provide guidance to their team on best practices, and escalate critical issues to the Director of Project Management, the Team Lead of Program Management and appropriate editorial partners. The Senior Project Manager, along with peers in the role, will be responsible for ensuring consistent practices throughout the department and continuously analyzing processes, systems, documentation, and training; proposing continuous improvements (particularly in terms of efficiency and quality); and working with the necessary constituents to implement approved changes.
The Senior Editorial Project Manager (Team Lead - HSSL) will be responsible for providing regular status reports and periodic feedback to the Director Project Management on individual staff performance as well as trends and issues both within the division as well as around the Integrated Workflow.
Additionally the Senior Editorial Project Manager (Team Lead - HSSL) may assume direct project ownership of a limited number of projects.
SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB
Supervisory responsibilities:
Approximately 8 Project Managers
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
30% 1. Provide guidance to Project Managers regarding queries around process, systems and tools, and project management.
30% 2. Train, mentor, supervise, and monitor team members on a daily basis to ensure conformity to process and budget standards, quality, timely publication, and successful fulfillment. Provide guidance re: problem solving and escalate issues to management as appropriate. Assist team members in troubleshooting and managing business unit expectations.
20% 3. Analyze processes, systems, documentation, and training; propose continuous improvements; collaborate with others as needed to implement approved changes.
15% 4. Monitor and provide reports on list status and staff performance on an ongoing basis. Assist in recruiting new staff as requested.
5% 5. Assess, prioritize, and assign overflow projects to team members (including a limited number to self). Continuously evaluate workloads within and across Project Managers to ensure projects remain on schedule.
All other responsibilities, as assigned by management.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Formal education or equivalent experience
- College degree or equivalent relevant experience required
- Experience comparable to the job description or 5-7 years publishing experience, preferably in editorial and/or pre-press production, with 2+ years supervisory experience desired
Skills/knowledge/abilities
- Supervisory experience in a fast paced, high growth environment
- Demonstrated ability in project management with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with Program Management and editorial department
- Proven negotiation and consensus-building skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry standard development and production processes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Author and vendor management skills preferred
