Job Description:

The New York Times is seeking a Manager of Business Development to join the Strategy & Development department. The Strategy & Development group performs all strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, venture investing and business development activities for the Company.

The Manager of Business Development identifies, develops and supports strategic partnerships and new business opportunities that will deliver value to the business by increasing digital subscriptions, driving advertising revenue and monetizing digital content.

The Manager is responsible for sourcing potential deals, negotiating agreements, and managing the resulting relationships, and will also analyze and optimize existing partnerships and business opportunities.

This position reports into the Executive Director of Business Development.

Responsibilities:

- Source, structure, negotiate, close and manage major strategic digital media partnerships
- Negotiate, draft and execute agreements and project manage new deals from start through launch
- Work with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure organizational understanding and support for deals and strategic partnerships
- Identify new opportunities to drive subscriptions, increase advertising revenue, build audience and lower existing expenses
- Develop financial models to estimate potential value of opportunities (eg market sizing, revenue and cost estimates,etc.)
- Evaluate new business/partner proposals and develop recommendations
- Assist Product Management, Technology, Newsroom, Advertising, Marketing, Paid Products and Circulation team on evaluating and implementing partnerships
- Works closely with legal counsel on contract matters

Requirements:
- 6+ years of relevant digital media experience (business development, product management, advertising sales preferred)
- Proven track record of negotiating and closing digital partnerships
- Understanding of contracts (eg licensing, services and marketing agreements, etc.)
- Solid experience in digital media or technology space, with a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape and business environment impacting mobile, video, social and content monetization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization skills; ability to multi-task while also paying attention to details.
- Strong financial modeling skills
- Demonstrated success in a matrixed organization
- BS/BA is required; MBA is preferred
