A Global Fortune 500 firm firm located in New York City is seeking a Data Center Consultant to engage in a long-term (1+ years) consulting assignment working within the Data Center reporting into the Data Center Director of Facilities Design and Construction helping perform Data Center build outs and troubleshooting with strong focus on Data Center Commissioning. As a Consultant you will to use your strengths in Data Center Commission & Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering to contribute to major Data Center builds.
Our client's facilities are highly critical in nature requiring 24 x 7 uptime operations. The candidate shall possess an appropriate balance of engineering expertise and leadership to successfully fulfil strategic initiatives by working with the various in-house and external consultants, facilities operation personnel, clients and management. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of how large Data Centers operate, key challenges faced in this environment and an ability to navigate the evolving requirements both strategically and operationally.
Responsibilities
: Provide a high degree of cooperation and team building among the various stakeholders. Develop and maintain strong relationships with all the firm's personnel and outside consultants
: Perform the design of Critical Facilities Electrical and/or Mechanical Infrastructure to achieve the project objectives, resiliency requirements, schedule and manage project risk goals.
: Provide input and support for commissioning efforts to determine completeness and accuracy of procedures in an effort to demonstrate compliance with the design intent
: Prepare Commissioning pre-functional, functional, and acceptance testing forms,
as well as oversee commissioning process in the field. Open to working equally in both the field, including travel, as well as in the office.
: Provide support to the facilities operations team to improve, remediate and upgrade existing systems
: Work with the project managers, contractors, operations engineers, landlord, consultants, etc. to implement the project design/upgrades in a timely and cost effective manner
: Review and recommend actions on property leases or acquisitions to accommodate the existing or proposed mechanical systems to meet the project objectives
: Develop and maintain corporate standards and specifications governing critical facilities and critical infrastructure and ensure proper and consistent implementation
: Provide global engineering support to regions outside of North America to assist with projects, peer reviews, development of standards, etc. (occasional travel required)
: Coordinate with key stakeholders to ensure capacity planning for future requirements
: Work with our sourcing team to develop a Scope of Work (SOW) for incorporation into Request for Proposals (RFPs) for engineering, architectural, commissioning, cable plant design, construction and project management services. Interview and make recommendations for vendor selections
: Benchmark the firm's critical facilities in relation to industry best practice
: Maintain industry awareness/knowledge of new technology infrastructure hardware, trends, and future requirements and potential applications to our portfolio.
Skills Required:
: BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, MS in Engineering and/or PE is a plus
: 8+ years of experience working on Data Center commissioning efforts and troubleshooting of Data Centers systems.
: 5+ years of relevant work experience with data center equipment/environments, including switch gears, generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems and a thorough understanding of startup/commissioning processes.
: LEED Accreditation would be a plus
: Excellent interpersonal, communications and people management skills
: Consultative and client-centric approach in service delivery, supported by strong problem solving skills
: A high degree of professionalism and discretion in managing internal clients and other stakeholders
: A thorough knowledge of controls systems, equipment, vendors and system integration for all major system including but not limited to; fire alarm, building management, heating and cooling systems and components, uninterruptable power supplies, generators, automatic and static transfer Switches, etc.
