Job Description:
The New York Times is seeking a curious, creative and passionate web developer to join a new team dedicated to creating mobile and web applications to deliver our journalism.
You'll be a part of a small multidisciplinary team rapidly prototyping, launching and scaling new products for multiple platforms. As one of the first hires, you'll have the opportunity to drive the architecture and own large pieces of the application.
The successful candidate must be experienced with Front End web development and be able to develop a project through its entire lifecycle. Also critical is an attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, pride in the quality of one's work and the ability to meet deadlines. Experience with Back End programming in frameworks such as Ruby on Rails and iOS development is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of architecting and developing portions of new applications for the New York Times' website
- Work as part of a small, cross-functional team including product, design and the newsroom to create new products on nytimes.com
- Push the envelope for state of the art mobile applications and development practices
Requirements:
- Expert-level understanding of standards-driven CSS, HTML and JavaScript.
- Extensive cross-browser and cross-device development experience.
- Familiarity with mobile development, including responsive design and touch capabilities.
- Deep understanding of the principles of web accessibility and user-centered design/development.
- A strong interest in improving the way we deliver our journalism to readers
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
