Ruby on Rails Web Developer

Job Description:

The New York Times is seeking a curious, creative and passionate web developer to join a new team dedicated to creating mobile and web applications to deliver our journalism.

You'll be a part of a small multidisciplinary team rapidly prototyping, launching and scaling new products for multiple platforms. As one of the first hires on the team, you'll have the opportunity to drive the architecture and own large pieces of the application.

The successful candidate must be experienced with Ruby on Rails and be able to develop a project through its entire lifecycle. Also critical is an attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, pride in the quality of one's work and the ability to meet deadlines. Experience building Front End web interfaces is a plus.

Responsibilities:
- Architect and Develop highly scalable web applications to launch on nytimes.com.
- Develop internal applications and apis to power new mobile products.
- See web applications through the entire lifecycle, from initial git commit through deployment and monitoring.

Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years experience developing and deploying Ruby on Rails applications
- Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with benchmarking and tuning website and web application performance
- Experience working with Unix/Linux
- Understanding of standards-driven CSS, HTML and JavaScript
- A strong interest in improving the way we deliver our journalism to readers
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
