DescriptionThe TSG Investors group is seeking a Technical Database Specialist for our 2nd level support team in New York. The Technical Support Engineer's job responsibility is to identify, troubleshoot and resolve system-wide and Oracle/Sybase issues on Thomson Reuters market data servers, networks and products. The engineer will typically spend several hours per day supporting Thomson ONE products over the phone, and remotely.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Monitor, install and maintain database and database objects(stored procedures, triggers, tables, etc) for SQL/Oracle/Sybase
- Maintain, troubleshoot and debug database related applications
- Identify and resolve system-wide issues on market data Servers and data delivery networks (LAN and WAN)
- Interact with field engineers, communication technicians and end users via phone. The Technical Specialist will typically spend several hours per day providing 2nd level support to clients over the phone.
- Analyze system performance data such as error logs, system logs, bandwidth utilization reports and other diagnostic and fault isolation tools to identify problem issues, taking corrective action as necessary.
- Utilize monitoring tools to monitor system, application and network behavior and performance
- Code and maintain basic scripts for statistics gathering and analysis, task automation and system monitoring
- Perform scheduled system upgrades
- Report design reliability and maintenance problems or "bugs" to design engineering/software engineering teams.
- Accept ownership of customer issues until a solution is achieved providing complete customer satisfaction.
- Work independently or part of a team on technically challenging projects to design, implement and manage specialized support technologies and activities aimed at improving the support experience of the customer.

Qualifications

QualificationsEducation: University degree in related discipline preferred
- At least 3 years experience in related field
- Knowledge of SQL, Oracle, RAC and Sybase database
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux/Windows, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS/SSL, IP Routing Protocols, CISCO Routers and switches
- Hardware knowledge of Dell, IBM, Sun and HP servers
- Ability to work under pressure in a stressful environment
- Possess strong analytical thinking with problem solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
