Job Description:
The Storage Administrator's role is to operate and performance tune storage platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure storage provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Skill/Knowledge Functions:
- Capacity planning and development of long-term strategic goals for enterprise storage.
- Work with systems and database administrators to implement storage architectures that utilize industry best practices including Information Lifecycle Management and Hierarchical Storage Management.
- Install and configure storage devices and corresponding software.
- Establish appropriate end-user access control levels for stored data. Perform tasks necessary to fulfil service level agreements with end-users regarding storage allocations, limitations, security, and availability.
- Perform and test backups and restores to ensure that enterprise data is effectively protected.
- Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for storage equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the Infrastructure Team.
- Perform tasks necessary to provide new virtual server implementations and support of existing virtual server environments.
- Work with others to develop data disaster recovery plans, performance analysis, and backup/restore processes.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor degree (or higher) is REQUIRED
- Good understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices.
- Experience with VMware Virtual Infrastructure solutions (VMware vSphere Replication Manager and VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager).
- Experience with HP storage products
- Hands-on Fibre Channel, iSCSI, SAN, NAS, and DAS troubleshooting experience.
- Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting storage Servers and management software, including Microsoft, HP, EMC or Hitachi midrange storage platforms.
- Solid skills in Microsoft operating systems.
