Req# 143899BR Position Title Network Planner II Position Summary Designs, analyzes, plans and modifies network components supporting customer communication implementation activities. Develops and evaluates network performance criteria and measurement methods. Prepares the analysis of the short-term or long-term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling. Conducts network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies. Develops alternative routing scenarios and changes in required sequence of network activities. Conducts studies to determine impacts on network capacity and development plan projections. Uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments, and may provide guidance to other personnel.

  • This network Planner II will be responsible for the deployment of complex and diverse network platforms/topologies within a nationwide telecommunications network.
  • This individual will work directly with design engineering and OEMs to interpret technical designs, create plans and write technical planning documents necessary to perform the timely installation and integration of new network elements.
  • This Planner II will be responsible for design validation, deployment and integration of complex enterprise networks, linking a variety of platforms, operating systems, network topologies and network protocols.
  • This individual will also make recommendations related to network architecture, evaluation of hardware and software products, and problem resolution as needed.
    Candidates for this position should be able to analyzing hardware and/or software data, identifying the root cause of problems, and develop/implement hardware and/or software solutions.
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate proven experience with Server based design, netowork deployment standards and be familiar with capacity planning methods.
  • Candidates shall have experience managing competing priorities for multiple service layer Server Technology systems. Candidate must be proficient in Data Center and Telephony environments.
  • Candidates should be proficient in technical documentation building, hand-offs of project level responsibilities, while utilizing/pursuing best practice in the industry for infrastructure standards, and delivering of systems for Data Center and Telephony locations.
  • Candidates should be able to understand and engage in work activities that include logistics, integration of core network elements as needed, spares of equipment to assist other Operations contacts with hardware/software requirements, and the ability to quickly respond to requests for assistance with network outages.
  • The candidate will also have a broad understanding of Data/IP type hardware platforms (Sun/Oracle, Starent, Hewlett Packard, EMC, F5, etc) and protocols/mediums of transport (TCP/IP, Copper and fiber optic Infrastructure Techniques, etc).
  • A combination of knowledge and skill set stemming from experience in both a design role as well as a hands-on Operations role is highly desirable.

    Responsibility:
    The Network Planner III will be responsible to:
  • Receive multiple workable assignments to service customer deployment needs for Server Deployments in the Call-Path server systems.
  • Report progress of assigned projects in pipeline.
  • Develop, maintain and revise as required new Technical installation documentation (Network Planning Letters) as received by client (Sprint).
  • Work with new design/augment equipment plans, deployment plans, and process planning documents as required by client customer base.
  • Document and communicate platform capacity planning requirements and procedures.
  • Communicate server platform deployment status, issues and budget justifications to leadership.
  • Analyze new platform handoffs for completeness from Core Network Planning, identify platform deficiencies in the handoff documents, and accept or reject the handoff.
  • Communicate and coordinate plans with internal deployment and operations personnel and with Core Network Planning and Network Development.
  • Assist with problem solving for up and down stream Planning teams with platform designs.
  • Interfaces:
    Internal:
  • The Canidate will interface with Center Operations, Field Operations, Translations, NEIS, and other internal groups with whom planning and deployment activities must be coordinated.
  • External:
  • The primary external interface with the customer for the Network Planner II will be through Sprint's Network Development teams, as well as Sprint ITS.

Qualifications:
Skills, Experience and Education:
  • Strong technical skills, and demonstrated history with Hardware, Software, Peripherals, and Infrastructure best practice in the Server and Starent Platform industry.
  • Technical understanding physical layers of Data Center Infrastructure and Planning techniques.
  • Minimum 2 years platform experience, hands on and Operations role a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven track record of meeting objectives.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree and two years related work experience or six years related work experience post high school

- Two years network planning work experience

- Two years experience with project management leadership

Preferred Qualifications

- Two years working with network performance criteria and measurement methods

- Two years experience with cost studies and reporting
