Position Title Network Planner II
Position Summary Designs, analyzes, plans and modifies network components supporting customer communication implementation activities. Develops and evaluates network performance criteria and measurement methods. Prepares the analysis of the short-term or long-term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling. Conducts network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies. Develops alternative routing scenarios and changes in required sequence of network activities. Conducts studies to determine impacts on network capacity and development plan projections. Uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments, and may provide guidance to other personnel.
- As a Network Planner II you will work on planning, engineering and implementing data network technologies.
- You will perform both production network Firewall configurations, work with vendors to resolve issues, and ensure successful implementation of network augments and upgrade.
- You will work to help define areas of network inefficiencies and work to correct those issues through either configuration changes or hardware additions.
- In addition, you will collaborate with other teams on technical solution options and write detailed network design documents.
- You will work to develop and maintain planning standards and methods to forecast network capacity requirements.
Position requires detailed knowledge of LAN/WAN hardware components, associated software, and protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP) and Network Security and Firewalls. Candidate must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, be a team player, exhibit strong personal initiative and have a positive attitude.Cisco and/or Juniper certifications are preferred. Experience with Firewalls is preferred.Applicants will be hired as a II or III depending on qualifications. Candidates of both levels are encouraged to apply.
Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree and two years related work experience or six years related work experience post high school
- Two years network planning work experience
- Two years experience with project management leadership
Preferred Qualifications - CCNP level or equivalent knowledge/experience
- Experience with network design, capacity planning, and implementation
- Knowledge of network performance criteria and measurement methods
- Knowledge of project management
- Experience using general office applications in order to perform work assignments
- Possess the technical ability to conduct network and equipment design, feasibility and cost assessments.
- Possess the engineering ability to develop complex network plans and associated cost estimates and create equipment deployment orders based on capacity requirements, project schedules, site conditions and Sprint/Industry standards.
- Possess the technology background to learn a working understanding of the following platforms: Firewalls, Network Protocols (IP & ISO), Network Management and associated functions and integration requirements.
- Possess a thorough understanding of wireless 3G and 4G network architectures.
