As part of enabling the Desktop journey to the cloud, and rapid software development, it is critical that the VMware View team fundamentally cares about innovation velocity of getting high quality, scalable, features on time, and decreasing the time-to-market continuously.

The Desktop Infrastructure Group is a technology enabler for the View product development team. Our team charter includes developing a cloud based continuously automated test platform, web application portal, large scale simulation tools, product installers and HW/SW infrastructure management.

Job Description:

The team is looking for a talented software developer with deep understanding and hands on experience in designing and building enterprise class products and tools. We are looking for candidates who will help with product feature install/upgrade, internationalization, Windows OS driver and services configuration, and serviceability. This is a development position that requires understanding of Windows system architecture as well as C/C++ coding and debugging skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

As a development engineer, you will:
- Analyze and understand the View product installer and related product code. Make recommendations, as well as code changes, to support new features and optimize the design.
- Work with developers and QA to improve installer automated test processes and keep the installer code base stable (Continuous Integration)
- Develop a solid technical foundation for a wide range of Windows OS versions and sub-systems, including MSI, service and device management, firewall, LDAP, database connectors, virtualization platforms and management tools

Requirements:

- 3+ years of hands on experience working in a software engineering organization, with at least 2 years of experience working on programming OS configuration tasks
- Technical competency in C/C++, MSI, and object-oriented programming required, Java experience desired
- Knowledge of Windows API required, MSI knowledge desired, Linux and UNIX operating systems desired
- Strong design skills and insights about usability
- Team player with excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment with a small team of dedicated engineers to creatively solve challenging problems and work with tight deadlines under pressure. Able and willing to perform other related technical duties when called on to help out the team.
- Capable of working with minimum supervision. A self-starter with demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and effectively manage your own deliverable and schedules
- Understanding of enterprise IT operations, for example, Windows and Linux OS deployment practices desired
- Experience with virtualization products and their associated tools and management applications, such as VMware ESX, is desired but not required Location Palo Alto, CA, US
