The Informatics IT department partners with diverse business areas across Merck, as well as organizations from across the healthcare landscape, to co-create and enable informatics capabilities that transform our ability to discover, develop and deliver products that meet unmet patient needs. We are currently seeking outstanding candidates to join our global team of diverse informatics professionals, spanning biomedical and health informatics, engineering, knowledge management, computational biology and translational informatics.
The Sr. Scientist, Informatics & Analytics will work as a key member of internally and externally facing research teams, playing a central role in the design, execution, and analysis of observational healthcare studies. Interacting closely with internal and external partners, this individual will collect, curate, and analyze data from electronic medical records and other sources of real world health information.
The successful candidate will understand the complexities of and excel at working with observational health data. Analyses conducted by this individual will influence internal business decisions and may also support external peer-review publications. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with talented and dedicated colleagues to make a difference in patient healthcare.
Responsibilities may include:
- Building analytic datasets, analysis of cross-sectional data, and longitudinal modeling (eg, survival analysis).
- Investigating quality/completeness of observational healthcare data from various sources and providing guidance on appropriate usage.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams on the design/execution of research studies and targeted analyses.
- Evaluating existing and prospective technology solutions to assess value and suggest improvements.
Qualifications
Education:
- MA/MS/PhD in biostatistics, epidemiology, health/medical informatics, or equivalent experience required.
Required:
- Experience analyzing large observational healthcare datasets.
- Strong understanding of biostatistics, research methodology, and potential biases encountered when working with observational healthcare data.
- Proficiency using SAS statistical software.
- Experience developing statistical plans and contributing to design of research protocols.
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse scientific and medical disciplines.
- Ability to work creatively and flexibly, both independently and as part of a multi-site and multi-organizational research team.
- Highly motivated and desires to constantly learn new skills, systems and processes.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- A desire to make a difference to patients and improve healthcare.
Preferred:
- Experience using medical ontologies (eg, ICD-9, CPT) to develop patient cohorts identification strategies.
- SAS programming certification(s).
- Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP).
- Machine learning expertise.
