Description:

The Application Developer will be responsible for the analysis, design and implementation of web related portal development for VWR International. In this role, he/she will be expected to possess web and development skills in key technologies (articulated below). The individual in this role should ideally possess technical and graphical user interface skills in Java based web development.

Job Responsibilities:

- As part of a team, performs analysis, design, implementation, unit tests, and code reviews. Works with business stakeholders, managers, and other developers to create solutions to business problems. Good communication skills are key to this position.
- Translates functional requirements into conceptual and detailed designs; Provides estimates for development effort; Implementing proof of concept, prototypes and production-grade software; writes unit tests;
- Supports VWR Intranet portal applications for enhancements and break-fix. Assists Operations and Support staff in trouble-shooting software issues as well as implementing bug fixes.

Experience & Skills:

- Experience in designing and implementing web applications
- Experienced in Java web development, skills include: JSP, servlet, JSTL, JMS, JMX, JAXB, JAX-WS, CXF and JAX-RS
- Experience in web UI development - HTML, JavaScript, JSP, CSS, AJAX, and jQuery.
- Open source tools and frameworks: Spring, Hibernate, Lucene, Solr, ANT, MAVEN, JUNIT, JMeter
- Experience in using one or more version control systems for branching and merging such as SVN.
- Experience developing applications in a Linux operating system
- Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, including Core J2EE Design Patterns and UML
- Experience working with Tomcat and Apache
- Knowledge and understanding of relational database structure and design using MS SQLServer.
- Some experience with performance tuning (Front End/Back End)
- Ability to work in a team environment with a positive attitude

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience and/or certificates.
- Minimum 3 years of web based Java development experience in a team environment.
- Web development using J2EE technology, Spring Framework, web service (SOAP, RESTFul), DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, SQL, MS SQLServer, MySQL, XML
- Object Oriented Design and implementation.
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate with business representatives, system analysts, managers etc.
- Able to comprehend business needs and concerns, and integrate that understanding into design and implementation.
- Must be a highly skilled web programmer.
- Liferay application development experience preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge of any or all of the following is a plus: mobile app development, portal development, workflow, Alloy UI, web responsive design, Qlikview a plus.
