Description
Job Description: The Application Engineer (AE) is primarily a Software Engineer/Developer. Significant contribution also results when the AE acts as a customer advocate and program/project manager. Application Engineers act as consultants and provide support to third party product developers and vendors. AEs help developers create or move their products to IA based platforms.
Key Duties and responsibilities: Work with Vendors, Customers, Partners and internal development teams to remove roadblocks and bring cutting edge products to market. Support and influence SW developers during all phases of SW development cycle including: feature definition, project setup, project execution, platform/software integration, tech support for go-to-market. Providing technical consultation, and hands-on assistance to SW developers in areas of code development, testing and tuning of SW apps. AE's provide expertise to customers and contribute to Intel SW and HW product development by providing technical feedback to Intel product teams.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Identifying and debugging build/networking/streaming/application/integration issues with drivers and the rest of the software stacks
Working directly with customers on reproducing/resolving bugs and integration related issues.
Creating and performing high level acceptance testing on software releases from service providers, OEMs and ISVs.
Setting up software development environments like installing/rebuilding SDKs from ISVs on top of Intel software stack.
Work with hardware reference platforms, CMTSs, AV streamers, Video and data headends, and various other communication and multimedia test equipment.
Documentation including release notes, customer communications, design collaterals
Qualifications
Essential skills:
Solid debugging skills, ability to replicate and root cause problems running complex software stacks on residential gateway platforms
Ability to look at code, understand it, and possibly modify/enhance it
Ability to work in a fast-paced, and interruption-driven environment
Ability to support customers on a variety of disparate issues at the same time
Ability to work well w/others in a team environment.
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Expert with Linux OS, drivers and C/C++
Experience working with service provider gateways and STBs (broadband data, networking, voice, media)
Experience in broadband network communications
Additional Nice to have Skills :
Knowledge of network protocols and stacks such as TCP, UDP, SNMP, IPv6, Gateway, L2 Switch, VLANs, etc.
Knowledge of Comcast RDK, OCAP-RI, or CDI
Knowledge of Cable related technologies such as DOCSIS, PacketCable, OpenCable, CableCard, DSG, and Conditional access headends such and Cisco (SA) and Motorola.
Experience with voice codecs and VOIP
Experience with transcoding and/or 3D Video
Knowledge of audio/video codecs like H.264, AC3 etc.
Experience in performance profiling and hotspots analysis
Experience with MoCA and WiFi
Experience with bootloaders and board support packages.
Experience with Java
Education: Bachelors Degree or higher.
Experience: 5+ years of experience working as software developer for Embedded systems

The Customer Deployment Engineering (CDE) team provides local and remote support for customers and partners who are developing products for major MSO's and service providers. This position will involve working both at our local facility and at our customer's facilities in the area.
