American Express Network Architecture and Engineering is paramount in delivering a world class IP network for our customers and our employees. The Engineer who joins this team will be joining a dynamic and fast past team who provides global solutions to real world problems within the network space. The Engineer will be part of an experienced and diverse team of Engineers, which has been formed from various parts of AXP Technologies.

This position will be part of the Network Architecture and Engineering team responsible for operational management and engineering across the AMEX Global IP Network. This Infrastructure Engineer (IE) position will report to the Director of Network Architecture and Engineering. The IE role of Network Architecture and Engineering will be responsible for the engineering, monitoring, operation, administration, installation, relocation, testing and maintenance of the global American Express data networks.

* Plans, monitors and communicates status of assigned projects, hardware and software problems with business, customer and leadership communities
* Initiates and co-ordinates corrective actions as required with staff, vendors, partners and other American Express Technology teams
* Assists leadership team in development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures
* Leads assigned small to medium scale projects
* This individual will assist with reviewing existing tools, applications and processes to help strengthen and optimize current capabilities, as well as identify any gaps or technical solutions to further enhance the team's effectiveness

Qualifications

* Strong organizational, facilitation, budget management and negotiation experience
* Strong Technical and analytical expertise
* This includes but not limited to: Complex network hardware and software recommendation/configurations, Implementing prototype lab systems to test new hardware and software, consulting with clients to determine network requirements and implementation, researches, evaluates and recommends new tools for network services via prescriptive architectures
* Thorough knowledge of PC based software
* Must have good written and presentation skills
* Ability to travel 5-10%
* LAN and WAN experience working with Cisco Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Juniper Secure Access SSL VPN, Cisco Anyconnect, Aruba wireless products
* Experience with WAN technologies and protocols, including best practices designs and troubleshooting. Routing protocol experience (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP) redistribution and summarization
* Knowledge of routing protocol metrics to aid in desired traffic flow
* Understanding of Client Server applications. Knowledge and use of protocol analyzers (sniffers, etc.)
* Proven problem solver with ability to provide in-depth analysis of complex problems, manage risk and make quick decisions
* Excellent presentation/verbal communication skills
* Experience in relationship management and collaboration skills with external vendor partners, technology colleagues and business partners is preferred
* Cisco Certification and ITIL Accreditation preferred
* Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) is preferred
* Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field (or has equivalent work experience)
