Lead Technical Architect for the Customer Servicing and Engagement Global Payments/International Financials portfolio. Global Payments, International Summary of Accounts, and the International Statements are some of the most widely visited pages on the American Express website. As the Lead Technical Architect, the incumbent will play a key role in the understanding of business strategies, requirements, and priorities that are key to the delivery of successful projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with his/her peers, technology partners, vendor partners and business partners to drive complex requirements that result in the delivery of projects that exceed business partner expectations for quality, budget and timelines.

* Accountable for architectural leadership of Java/J2EE projects, from design to implementation and support for the MYCA (My Card Account) International and the Global Payments portfolios
* Create/maintain strategic & tactical architecture plans, and research/identify the most effective new information technologies to support said plans
* Works with technology and business partners to understand and coordinate requirements for new developments, resulting in architectural recommendations and/or solutions
* Design and architect solutions that guarantee effective implementation and integration of business-critical applications and components
* Provide hands-on expertise to Technical Leads and Programmers on product development processes, detailed technical architectures and systems integration
* Provide technical leadership and mentor peers on distributed technologies and advanced architecture topics in various venues (eg, workshops, "brown bags", etc.)
* Keep abreast with the latest advances in software development technologies and lead implementation of strategic solutions that add significant value to AET
* Interaction with end-user business and technology customers in an effective and positive manner
* Contribute to the development of architecture documents, user manuals, other technical documentation, and meet directly with senior technical/business leaders

Qualifications

* Computer Science or Information Systems degree or equivalent work experience in Java technologies
* 8-10 years of technical experience. Requires advanced knowledge and understanding of architecture, applications systems design and integration with a detailed understanding of applicable programming methodologies
* Needs to be a strategic thinker, who is able to combine technical skills with overall business strategy and utilize creative solutions for problem resolution and application development
* Must have a thorough understanding of scalable, secure and robust n-tier architectures for achieving end-to-end performance, availability, reliability, usability, configurability, integration and security
* Strong knowledge of Java and Architecture strategies, components, tools, concepts, best practices, standards and systems of record is strongly desired Experience with creating solid technical strategies in enterprise settings is required. Knowledge of CSS and Java Script is strongly preferred
* Must have a passion for technology, combined with solid conceptual understanding and hands-on programming experience with J2EE and Web Services Technologies
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills required, with ability to create and deliver effective presentations to upper management and technical architects across the organization
* Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in the technology space and the ability to influence and optimize input from key stakeholders in the standard setting process
* Proven ability to participate in, and contribute simultaneously to, multiple work streams including planning, logistics, communication, and follow up across a diverse and virtual team
