Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY
Provides technical support for Backup infrastructure hardware and software. Consults with clients and other technical staff on complex backup design, implementation, and maintenance solutions. Evaluates new tools and technologies for backing up UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN environments. Manages backup infrastructure vendor relationships, and problem resolution. Responsible for capacity planning and performance tuning.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs, configures, and maintains backup infrastructure hardware and software for clients and backup Servers.
- Works closely with clients, vendors, and other technical staff to identify and resolve complex backup issues or problems that impact the UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN environments.
- Consults with clients and other technical staff on complex backup infrastructure design, implementation, or maintenance issues. Analyze business requirements and recommends technical solutions.
- Provides technical backup infrastructure support for UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN application development.
- Researches, evaluates, and recommends new tools and technologies for backup infrastructure.
- Works with technical staff regarding backups and backup infrastructure on design and implementation of complex large scale UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN systems and applications.
- Provides capacity planning and manages performance of the backup infrastructure.
- Provides backup infrastructure support for relational database Servers.
- Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Previous (5-7 years) experience in backups/UNIX/VMS/Windows/SAN as a backup/systems administrator.
- Previous experience in a distributed processing environment.
- Experience supporting and trouble-shooting RDBMS and LAN/WAN networks.
- Experience with capacity planning and performance management tools and concepts.
- Experience with Shell programming and C/C++ or Java programming languages.
- Significant knowledge and technical understanding of O/S and network technologies.
- Excellent consultative and communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical ability and judgment.
- Ability to work effectively with clients and other technical staff.
