Team brief

The Skype Real-Time Media group applies core expertise in audio and video signal processing to problems in advanced teleconferencing scenarios that are used by hundreds of millions of customers worldwide. If you believe in the power of high quality Voice and Video to transform the way in which people communicate and that we have barely scratched the surface in what is possible, then this is the perfect role for you.

Voice and Video Quality depends both on our software and the platforms and devices we run on. As the owner for our hardware and silicon partner engagements and hardware certification efforts, you will be empowered to drive a big part of the strategy and implementation of technical requirements for our partner offerings and collaborate with our global partner ecosystem to bring them to market.

Duties

This position will require an in-depth and hands on engagement in writing our technical requirements and driving engineering teams and labs to implement qualification tests.

You must have:

A minimum of 5+ years of experience in software product development/management and driving agile product development with a majority of your work in audio/video streaming.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, as well as good communication skills.
An MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience.
In depth experience in Audio Video Technology, Silicon Architecture and a clear understanding of our hardware impacts Voice and Video Quality is essential for this role.
Knowledge of Voice/Video Capture and Render technologies, Signal Processing algorithms in both Audio and Video like Noise Reduction, Codecs, Signal Improvement methods like Echo cancellation, Image Stabilization and Streaming are essential for this role.
Since teamwork is critical to our success, you should have great communication and teaming skills and be able to work in a high performance team with minimal supervision.
Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to develop strategy documents, functional specifications and design recommendations are expected.
You will also be required to communicate your vision to senior leaders across the company and the communications industry in a wide variety of forums including major conferences.

It would be great if you had:

Familiarity with standards bodies like ITU-T/ISO/ETSI/IETF is important to this role and candidates who actively contribute will have an added advantage.
The ideal candidate will also have gone through the several phases in the product cycle and been part of at least 1-2 major product releases from design to ship using agile development practices in a leadership role.
Experience with signal processing algorithms and Voice & Video codecs, familiarity with MATLAB and relevant toolkits and a strong statistical background are also strongly desired.
Any experience in statistical analysis will be an added advantage.
