We are looking for Quality Minded Engineers to create the next generation of Office Engineering platforms, tools, and processes to empower the Office Division. You will be directly involved in influencing the next wave of innovation in engineering tools and processes used by Office developers, testers and program managers across the division to get their work done. You will gain insight into all stages of the lifecycle in one of world's largest codebases and drive continuous improvements in quality and efficiencies.
This is a team that thinks big and builds big important improvements for engineers in Office. To be successful, team-members must develop an intuitive understanding of what will make an engineer efficient and champion improvements based on that intuition as well as direct customer feedback. As well as traditional PM skills, this job requires the ability to effectively interact with engineers at any level of the organization from individual contributors to discipline managers.
As a program manager in Office Engineering your responsibilities would include the following:
Developing strong partnerships with developers and testers within the Office Division to gain deep understanding of how they get their work done. Leverage these partnerships to drive the vision and improvement of tools and process at a strategic level and within the specifications.
Partnering with the Office division's automation across machines that routinely execute automation tests.
Improving the automation framework that testers and developers code to.
Driving Engineering efficiencies and optimized workflows to all corners of the globe, ensuring an excellent Office Engineering experience is possible in all international development centers by designing for challenges such as bandwidth and latency.
Keeping up-to-date with engineering practices, engineering technologies and automation techniques across the industry and cross group within Microsoft. Understand the existing tools and their strengths and limitations in the context of making Office a more efficient engineering organization.
Qualified candidates should have:
Strong technical skills in designing enterprise software, and systems
Strong Quality Assurance Experience as a Developer, Tester, or PM
Passion for and strong customer and partner empathy
Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
Communicate business problems, alternatives, and product strategy to project teams and leadership.
Ability to concisely frame problems and design simple solutions.
The ability to solve complex problems.
6+ years of experience working in an engineering capacity
1 year of experience working with software development process improvement
