Division: Applications and Services Engineering
Are you interested in leading change and transformation for a rapidly growing & profitable enterprise-focused cloud service? Do you want to work in a division that has a direct impact on Microsoft's bottom-line? If you enjoy driving innovation in a fast-paced services team and have a passion for understanding and meeting customer business needs, this is the opportunity for you.
What makes our team special? As part of Office 365, we run a rapidly growing Exchange Dedicated service for many Fortune 500 companies and Federal agencies, managing nearly 3 million active mailboxes. Exchange Server is the #1 enterprise e-mail server in the world and is on track to be the #1 e-mail service in the world, growing at a tremendous pace. We are evolving our service to run at higher scale given our demanding customer expectations around reliability and service availability. In this role, you will not only gain the experience of designing and running a cloud service, but will also gain a deep understanding of Fortune 500 customer business needs by working directly with them.
What do we do? This position has a strong emphasis on the entire customer lifecycle including: building features for on-boarding new large Enterprise and Federal customers, migrating existing customers to a new high availability service architecture, developing solutions for customer service transitions in merger & acquisition and divestiture scenarios, defining customer roadmaps and service customization. A technical program manager with the ability to lead end-to-end experiences would shine in this role.
What does it take? Our team culture is very execution/shipping focused, very collaborative, passionate and friendly. We need strong technical leaders who are self-starters, execution-focused and passionate about working with large enterprise customers with complex requirements and constraints. Some of the qualities we look for in a candidate include:
Ability to lead change and drive own initiatives: Exchange Dedicated team is undergoing a transformation to a highly scalable cloud service, so the ability to lead change and deal with ambiguity is a must. We are looking for highly motivated leaders who are interested in taking ownership of their area and running it end to end, much like a startup.
Execution Efficiency: for any task, there is usually a way to do it much faster. Can you lower costs, transition more customers, and do it in a repeatable, services-oriented manner?
Technical experience: We would love someone with experience in high scale services, distributed systems, big data, Messaging or Identity. However, raw intelligence and motivation are more important than experience. Many of us came into this team with little background on Exchange. You should have strong technical skills and the ability to pick up new ideas and concepts quickly.
Cross-team skills: Our team works with many other teams across Exchange and Office divisions. You will need to work closely with partner teams to figure out solutions to current service issues as well as drive planning together for future product releases.
Customer Impact and Project Management: In this role you will be engaging directly with large Fortune 500 Enterprises and Federal customers who have high expectations around customization of the environment, reliability and availability of the service and the responsiveness of our customer service. Ideal candidate must be passionate about working closely with customers through their issues and have the ability to manage projects in parallel across dozens of customers.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
